LINCOLN – The University of Nebraska swimming and diving team wrapped up the fall semester with a convincing win over Northern Iowa, as the Cornhuskers topped the Panthers 159-79 in Lincoln.<\/p>\n
The Nebraska swimming and diving team earned victories in 12 of 13 events on its way to a 159-79 victory over Northern Iowa Friday evening at the Devaney Natatorium. Nebraska was led by Cassie Brassard, Taryn Collura, Jordan Ehly and Anna Filipcic each capturing two victories a piece against the Panthers.<\/p>\n
Brassard earned her first victory of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Brassard raced to a time of 10:45.11. Earning her second victory of the day, Brassard finished in a time of 57.32 in the 100-yard backstroke.<\/p>\n
Collura also earned two victories on Friday. Collura’s first victory came in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.71. Collura also claimed the 100-yard freestyle racing to a time of 51.20.<\/p>\n
Nebraska’s third multiple event winner of the meet, Ehly, raced to a time of 2:07.48 in the 200-yard individual medley earning a first-place finish. Ehly also swam to a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke posting a time of 1:05.30.<\/p>\n
Nebraska’s final multiple event winner was Filipcic. The sophomore earned victories in the one- and three-meter diving events. Filipcic posted a score of 298.20 in the one-meter and 329.25 in the three-meter.<\/p>\n
Natalie Morris and Katt Sickle also earned individual victories for the Huskers. Morris claimed her title in the 100-yard butterfly racing to a time of 56.94. Sickle earned a victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.70.<\/p>\n
Nebraska swept the relay events. The Huskers opened up the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jacqueline Juffer, Ehly, Erin Oeltjen and Alex Bilunas raced to a time of 1:45.39. Nebraska also earned a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The squad featuring Bilunas, Collura, Rebekah Land and Bria Deveaux raced to a first-place time of 1:35.77.<\/p>\n
The Nebraska swimming and diving team will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 10. The Huskers will travel to Fort Myers, Fla. to take on Florida Gulf Coast, with that meet beginning at 10 a.m. Check back into Huskers.com for any and all updates regarding the Nebraska swimming and diving team.<\/p>\n
The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team were at Devaney Natatorium this evening for a dual event against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Panthers would fall to the Cornhuskers 159-79, however, there were plenty of strong individual performances in the pool and on the diving board from the Panthers.<\/p>\n
200 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n The team of Mariah Holmes, Stephanie Paape, Stephanie Jackson and Riley Morgan combined to be the Panthers top finishing 200 medley relay team.<\/p>\n 1000 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n Meredith Gorman was the top UNI finisher in the 1000 freestyle. Gorman set a season best time of 11:06.23 in the event.<\/p>\n 200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n Rachel Siebenaller continued her outstanding freshman season as a Panther by winning the 200 freestyle event. Siebenaller’s final time clocked in at a personal-record of 1:53.47.<\/p>\n 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n Freshman freestyle swimmer Molly Lembezeder was the top UNI finisher in the 50 freestyle, taking third-place in the event with a time of 24.25. UNI’s next best finisher in the 50 freestyle was senior Miki Freese.<\/p>\n 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n Junior Taylor Ostrowski took top honors for UNI in the 200 IM. The Carol Stream, Ill. native finished the event with a time of 2:17.44.<\/p>\n
