ARLINGTON – December is upon us, as Capital Athletic Conference swimming makes a last push in 2014. Only three of the six teams of the CAC conference competed this past weekend. Marymount and Saint Mary\u2019s would compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational as Mary Washington competed in the Gettysburg Invitational. This is the last week of action for Capital Athletic Conference until next year.<\/p>\n

At a Glance\u2026<\/h2>\n

For the women in the Capital Athletic Conference, Saint Mary\u2019s and Marymount competed in the Yellow Jacket Invitational this past Friday and Saturday in Chesterfield Virginia. Saint Mary\u2019s would finish second overall out of 10 teams and rack up 534 points. Hannah Hafey took gold in the 50 free (24.97), as fellow teammate and captain Brook Raab won gold in the 400 IM (4:39.33) as well as the 100 breast (1:07.05). For Marymount, the women finished 6th overall tallying 325 points beating four other teams. Clare Thomas had solid individual performances earning fourteenth overall in the 50 free (25.83) and fourth in the 200 free (1:58.52). Senior Bridget Wunderly would also grab a top 5-time earning fourth in the 100 fly (1:00.60).<\/p>\n

For the men, Saint Mary\u2019s finished 7th out of nine teams earning 293 points. Junior Grant Burgess took home third place in the 1650 (16:40.43) almost setting a school record, as well as finishing eight in the 200 fly (2:01.54). As for Marymount, the saints finished 5th overall racking up 340 points and beating four other teams. Freshmen Ross Wiley finished third overall in the 100 back (53.65) while setting a team record. Fellow freshmen Thomas Brierly finished sixth overall (54.31) and had broken the team record one heat prior to Wiley\u2019s recors setting pace.<\/p>\n

Mary Washington took part in the Gettysburg Invitational in Gettysburg Pennsylvania Friday and Saturday. Both teams finished second overall with the women earning 845 points, as the men tallied 719. Among top swimmers for the women, Ashley Walnut took first in the 1650 (18:06.81) as teammate Abby Cox earned first place in the 400 IM (4:35.25). For the men, Zachary Eisig wins first place in the 1650 free (16:27.15) while teammate Kenyon Huber-Wilker earns first places in the 200 breast (2:06.68) and the 100 breast (58.23).<\/p>\n

The Capital Athletic Conference will be on hiatus until the beginning of the spring semester. The beginning of 2015 will be intertwined with conference action that will be sure to shake up the standings and see plenty of fast swimming.<\/p>\n

\nJanuary 16: Saint Mary\u2019s at Johns Hopkins; Gallaudet and PSU-Altoona at York

CAC Swimmers of the Week for week of Nov. 30 \u2013 Dec. 6<\/h2>\n

Capital Athletic Conference named senior Brooke Raab of Saint Mary\u2019s and freshman Kenyon Huber-Wilker CAC swimmers of the week. Raab wins the award for the second straight week helping the Seahawks earn second place in the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Raab won and set a meet record in the 400 IM (4:39.33) while also winning the 100 breast and setting a school and meet record (1:07.05). Raab also helped the 800 free relay and 400 medley relay. Huber-Wilker helped Mary Washington finish second overall at the Gettysburg Invitational with two fist places in the 100 (58.23) breast and 200 breast (2:06.68).<\/p>\n

Dennis D\u2019Abbracio is a senior freestyler for the Marymount Saints. \u00a0He has trained with the Flanders Valley Swim and Tennis Club, Morris County Swim Club, Roxbury Racers and Roxbury Gaels Swimming prior to moving on to Marymount.<\/em><\/p>\n
