CANBERRA, Australia, July 28. THE Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) announced the appointment of Shannon Rollason as head coach of its swimming program on Friday.<\/p>\n
Rollason, along with Australian swim stars Jodie Henry and Alice Mills, came to the AIS last year having previously headed up the Chandler Swimming Club in Brisbane.<\/p>\n
AIS Director Professor Fricker is happy to secure Rollason to head the AIS swim program at a crucial time in the lead up to 2008 Beijing Olympics.<\/p>\n
\u201cShannon has done an outstanding job with our swimmers,\u201d Fricker said. \u201cBut to appoint him as head coach will give our program the stability and strength needed heading into next years world championships in Melbourne and then onto the Beijing Olympics.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rollason says he is delighted with the opportunity to work at one of the best sporting institutions in the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be appointed head coach of the AIS Swimming program with its incredible support networks, particularly in sports science and medicine, and the resources they have in place for athletes and coaches is a great honor,\u201d Rollason said. \u201cThe talent here at the AIS is so exciting and with the AIS Recovery and Swimming Centre soon to be completed these swimmers will have the worlds best in technology and assistance to help them reach their potential.\u201d<\/p>\n
Australian Swimming head coach, Alan Thompson said Rollason\u2019s appointment will be well received within the swimming community.<\/p>\n
