DOHA –\u00a0Sweden\u2019s Sarah Sjostrom broke the 55-second barrier in the women\u2019s 100 fly with a world-record win at the FINA World Short Course Championships. Watch Race Video<\/a><\/p>\n

Sjostrom scorched the pool with a smoking time of 54.61. That swim downed the previous world record of 55.05 set by Diana Bui Duyet back in 2009. \u00a0Incidentally, it also lowered Sjostrom\u2019s meet record of 55.13 from yesterday.<\/p>\n

Sjostrom joins Slovakia\u2019s Martina Moravcova and Italy\u2019s Ilaria Bianchi as the only women to win both the European and world title in the 100 fly. \u00a0She also managed to\u00a0win both the 50 fly<\/a>\u00a0and 100 fly this week.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s Lu Ying raced her way to second in 55.25, smashing her Asian record of 55.95 from the Beijing stop of the FINA World Cup this year.<\/p>\n

Denmark\u2019s Jeanette Ottesen wound up with a bronze-winning time of 55.32 in one of the fastest podiums of all time.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands\u2019 Inge Dekker (56.40), China\u2019s Chen Xinyi (56.49), Italy\u2019s Ilaria Bianchi (56.67), Belgium\u2019s Kimberly Buys (56.82) and Brazil\u2019s Daiene Marcal Dias (57.26) finished fourth through eighth in the finale.<\/p>\n
