Cielo led the way with a 46.50. He\u2019s the second-fastest swimmer in the world this year with a 46.08 from the Jose Finkel Trophy.<\/p>\n
Russia\u2019s Vlad Morozov has the meet record with a 45.51 as the relay leadoff for the 400 free relay, but won\u2019t be swimming the event individually.<\/p>\n
Ning, meanwhile, scorched his way to a 46.76 for the second seed. \u00a0That swim not long crushed the Chinese record of 47.29 set by Lu Zhiwu at the 2012 World Championships, it also undercut the Asian mark of 46.85 set by Japan\u2019s Takuro Fujii in 2009.<\/p>\n
Brazil\u2019s Joao de Lucca (46.84), Australia\u2019s Tommaso D\u2019Orsogna (46.88), Russia\u2019s Danila Izotov (47.00), Belgium\u2019s Pieter Timmers (47.05) and France\u2019s Mehdy Metella (47.26) also made up the top eight.<\/p>\n
Japan\u2019s Katsumi Nakamura (47.32), France\u2019s Florent Manaudou (47.38), USA\u2019s Jimmy Feigen (47.40), Japan\u2019s Shinri Shioura (47.45), Italy\u2019s Luca Dotto (47.68), South Africa\u2019s Leith Shankland (47.72), Cuba\u2019s Hanser Garcia (47.73) and Cayman Island\u2019s Brett Fraser (47.81) will also compete in the semifinals.<\/p>\n
