DOHA \u2013\u00a0In just two nights, Spain’s Mireia Belmonte Garcia has won a career-high three golds after topping the 800 free tonight at the FINA World Short Course Championships. Watch Race Video<\/a><\/p>\n

It only took two nights, and Spain\u2019s Mireia Belmonte Garcia already matched her gold-medal output from 2010 as she topped the 800 free tonight with a meet record.<\/p>\n

Belmonte Garcia chased down the distance freestyle gold with an 8:03.41, giving her a third gold after\u00a0her pair of world records in the 200 fly and 400 IM last night<\/a>. That equals her 2010 output, which was the most gold medals won by a Spaniard in short course worlds history.<\/p>\n

Belmonte Garcia\u2019s time may not have been close to her world record 7:59.34 from the Berlin stop of the FINA World Cup last year, but it was more than enough to crack Rebecca Adlington\u2019s 2008 meet record of 8:08.25.<\/p>\n

Great Britain\u2019s Jaz Carlin also cleared Adlington\u2019s mark with a silver-winning time of 8:08.16, while The Netherlands\u2019 Sharon van Rouwendaal took bronze in 8:08.17. That\u2019s a strong effort for van Rouwendaal,\u00a0the reigning Swimming World Open Water Swimmer of the Year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hungary\u2019s Boglarka Kapas (8:16.32), Germany\u2019s Sarah Kohler (8:17.08), Spain\u2019s Maria Vilas Vidal (8:18.82), USA\u2019s Lindsay Vrooman (8:19.36) and Great Britain\u2019s Hannah Miley (8:20.09) closed out the top eight.<\/p>\n
