DOHA \u2013\u00a0Chad le Clos finally tracked down the 100 fly world record as he put on the race of a lifetime during finals of the FINA World Short Course Championships. Watch Race Video<\/a><\/p>\n

In an absolutely loaded final, South Africa\u2019s Chad le Clos finally tracked down the world record in the men\u2019s 100-meter fly at the FINA World Short Course Championships.<\/p>\n

Le Clos went out in 22.59 and came home in 25.85 to win the finale in 48.44. \u00a0That swim clipped the previous record of 48.48 set by Evgeny Korotyshkin during the 2009 FINA World Cup stop in Berlin.<\/p>\n

Le Clos is just the second swimmer to ever defend the men\u2019s 100 fly title as Sweden\u2019s Lars Frolander won the title three straight editions in 1997, 1999 and 2000.<\/p>\n

Le Clos also becomes the most honored African in World Short Course Championships history with his fourth career gold medal. \u00a0That broke a tie with Ryk Neethling at three for the most by a male swimmer from Africa.<\/p>\n

USA\u2019s Tom Shields broke 49 for the first time this year with a 48.99 for silver. \u00a0It wasn\u2019t his American record of 48.80 that he had targeted, but it was enough for second place tonight.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Tommaso D\u2019Orsogna raced his way to third in 49.60 for fourth in the world, while former world-record holder Korotyshkin managed fourth tonight in 49.88.<\/p>\n

Japan\u2019s Kosuke Hagino (49.91), Belarus\u2019 Yauhen Tsurkin (49.99), USA\u2019s Ryan Lochte (50.23) and Brazil\u2019s Marcos Macedo (50.47) finished fifth through eighth this evening.<\/p>\n
