HAMILTON, N.Y., July 12. COLGATE University announced the hiring of Matt Crispino as an assistant swimming coach. Crispino will assist head coach Stephen Jungbluth with all aspects of the men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving programs, and will coordinate recruiting for both programs.<\/p>\n
Crispino comes to Colgate from the U.S. Military Academy (Army), where he has worked as an assistant coach in charge of recruiting for both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams since 2003. During Crispino\u2019s time at West Point, the Black Knights broke 12 academy records and 13 plebe records; the Army men enjoyed two runner-up finishes at the Patriot League Championship; and the Army women finished as high as third place at the conference meet. Over his final two seasons, the Army men posted an 18-4 dual-meet record, and the Black Knights sent five individuals to national competitions last winter.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very fortunate that Matt has decided to join us,\u201d Jungbluth said. \u201cOver the past three years, he has left his mark at Army and established himself as an outstanding recruiter and coach. The service academies are the most difficult institutions in America to successfully recruit student-athletes, and it\u2019s been obvious from watching the swimmers that he has recruited and coached that he can produce results. After observing his recruiting classes and the way he carries himself at high school events, it\u2019s clear that he will make an excellent recruiter and representative of Colgate University. During the interview process, Matt met with several of our student-athletes, and he made an immediate connection with all of them. They\u2019ve all expressed enthusiasm for Crispino\u2019s decision to join our program, and I whole-heartedly share that sentiment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prior to joining the staff at Army, Crispino worked as a graduate assistant coach at Florida State University for one season. That year, he helped coach national, NCAA and Olympic trials qualifiers.<\/p>\n
Crispino began his coaching career as a counselor at the Skip Kenney Stanford Swim Camp in 2003, and as an assistant coach with the Cheshire YMCA Water Devils in Cheshire, Conn., in 2002.<\/p>\n
A 2002 graduate of the College of William and Mary, Crispino was a four-year letterwinnner for the men\u2019s swimming team. He served as a team co-captain during the 2001-02 season, and was named the team\u2019s MVP as a senior. Crispino and his teammates still hold the school record in the 800 freestyle relay. Crispino completed his master\u2019s degree in physical education with a concentration in sports management at Florida State in 2003.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
