Thirty-six year-old Wally Dicks led the way as three USMS records were broken by Ancient Mariners swimmers at a USS meet in Maryland last month. Dicks broke the men’s 35-39 100 yard breaststroke mark with a time of 56.68, then lowered that mark to 56.64 in a time trial. (The USS senior cut is 56.59.) <\/p>\n
In the 200 breast, Dicks lowered his own national mark by nearly a second, clocking 2:04.98. What made the swim even more remarkable was the way he did it, splitting 1:02.0 and 1:02.9. He won both events. <\/p>\n
The Ancient Mariners’ 400 medley relay team lowered it’s own 25+ over 400 yard medley relay record by a little more than a second, finishing in 3:27.30, more than two seconds under the USS senior cut). The team of Clay Britt,38, Dicks, 36, Jeff Roddin, 30, and MIchael Fell, 38 finished second in the event behind the Curl-Burke Swim Club, despite Dicks’ out-splitting Curl-Burke’s Tom Dolan on the breaststroke leg. <\/p>\n
