MONTREAL, July 3. MONTREAL\u2019S Thomas Kindler and London's Joe Bartoch tied for overall first place and Channelle Charron-Watson of Quebec claimed the top spot in the women's standings at Bell Grand Prix swimming competition in Montreal. Meanwhile, Audrey Lacroix of Montreal earned her fourth gold medal with a victory in the women\u2019s 200-meter butterfly on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Lacroix, also the 50 and 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle winner this weekend, clocked 2:11.42 seconds. Mackenzie Downing of Victoria was second in 2:11.54 and Zsofi Balazs of Toronto was third in 2:16.95. In the men\u2019s 100 breaststroke, Matthew Huang of Montreal was the victor in 1:03.95 with Mike Brown of Calgary second in 1:03.98 and Matt Mains of Waterloo, Ont., third in 1:05.27. Brown, a world championship medalist last year in the 200 breaststroke, says he\u2019s on track for some strong performances later this summer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pleased with my races this weekend,\u201d said Brown. \u201cI improved the times I had posted in Europe and that was the goal coming into this meet. I think that the Bell Grand Prix is a good concept. It\u2019s great to be able to race top international swimmers at home. As the series builds a stronger international reputation it will hopefully attract big names.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was also a strong weekend for Jennifer Carroll of Trois-Rivieres, Que., who took the women\u2019s 50 backstroke in 29.72. Landice Yestrau of Winnipeg was second in 30.26 and Jen Beckberger of Ajax, Ont., third in 30.55. Other winners Sunday were Charles Francis of Montreal in the 50 backstroke, Yannick Lupien of Quebec City in the 100 freestyle, Jonathan Blouin of Quebec City in the 200 butterfly and Tobias Oriwol of Etobicoke, Ont, in the 400 individual medley. For the women, other winners were Lisa Blackburn of Waterloo, Ont., in the 100 breaststroke and Victoria Poon of Montreal in the 100 freestyle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
