ASTON, Pennsylvania, June 29. IT'S human nature to hope for certain outcomes in life. So, why not do the same with our sport. Here's a swimming wish list with a handful requests that could be fulfilled this summer.<\/p>\n
5. As he roared down the stretch during last year's World Championships in Montreal, Ian Crocker gave hope that a sub-50 100-meter butterfly is within reach. Ultimately, Crocker turned in a time of 50.40, good for a world record. But, the effort also served as proof that a barrier-breaking swim is on the horizon. Maybe, it will happen this summer, particularly as Crocker and Michael Phelps renew their rivalry.<\/p>\n
4. She was a Golden Girl during the 2000 Olympics, thanks to her victory in the 100-meter breaststroke. Now, Megan Jendrick (nee Quann) is storming toward more glory on a major international stage, i.e. the World Champs or Olympics. Jendrick has worked intensely over the past few years and appears capable of producing career-best marks at Summer Nationals. Here's to Jendrick landing a bid to next year's World Champs in Melbourne and earning a podium slot in the process.<\/p>\n
3. Can we please see the return of Ian Thorpe to major competition. Due to either a break from the sport, illness or a broken hand, the swimming community has not seen Thorpe compete at the top level since the Athens Olympics. An all-time great in the sport, Thorpe is too special of a talent to be missing from the global scene for such an extended period of time. <\/p>\n
2. We know it's a drug-tainted record, so is it too much to ask that Wu Yanyan's 200 individual medley world standard be wiped out by Katie Hoff? Don't think so. The American-record holder, Hoff has as good a chance as anyone in history to break the 200 I.M. record, and her name in the book would be a splendid addition after nine years of shadiness.<\/p>\n
