COLLEGE STATION, Texas, June 25. COMPETITION wrapped up on Sunday in College Station as many of the familiar names in the meet continued to stay on top. No records were broken, but there were still some close races. <\/p>\n
One of the few Olympians sticking around for finals on Sunday, Kirsty Coventry posted another double win, taking the women's 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley. In the backstroke event she was at the wall in a comfortable 1:03.67, while Dana Vollmer touched second in 1:05.06. Coventry, swimming for Longhorn Aquatics, then took the IM in a solid 2:18.88. For the men's 100 back, Craig Chapman (Longhorn) won in 59.65.<\/p>\n
Alexi Spann continued her sweep of the women's breaststroke events when she took down the 100 title in 1:12.95. Scott Spann was the evening's other double-winner when he won the men's 100 breaststroke (1:04.55) and went on to take down the 200 IM. Longhorn teammate Paul Ridgeway challenged Spann in the 200 IM length, but it was Spann who touched first in 2:09.18 to Ridgeway's 2:09.99.<\/p>\n
In the women's 800 freestyle, Flavia Rigamonti had little trouble out-pacing the field en route to winning in 8:35.74. For the men's 1,500, Mark Randall took down Michael Klueh with at time of 15:25.58.<\/p>\n
In sprinting action, it was Arlene Semeco who broke the 26-second barrier, posting a respectable time of 25.92. Fifteen-year-old Samantha Woodward (Fort Worth) and Dana Vollmer tied for second with their times of 26.58. On the men's side, Brian Regone (Katy) was the soul competitor under 24 seconds when he went 23.71 to win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
