BERLIN, Germany, June 24. ACTION on the third day of the German Championships continued to be solid, particularly the results of Helge Meeuw. Enjoying a sterling competition, Meeuw won his fourth crown of the meet by winning the 100 butterfly in 53.29. Meeuw had previously claimed titles in the 50 and 100 backstrokes and the 200 butterfly.<\/p>\n
Annika Liebs, the second-place finisher in the 100 freestyle, was the winner in the 200 freestyle as she checked in with a strong effort of 1:57.56. Meanwhile, Annika Mehlhorn complemented her gold medal in the 200 butterfly with a triumph in the 100 distance. Mehlhorn negotiated the two-lap race in 59.53 and was joined as a victor by Vipa Bernhardt in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.42).<\/p>\n
Janine Pietsch, the world-record holder in the 50 backstroke, won her prime event in 28.45. Pietsch had already won the 100 back. Other winners from the third day of competition were Paul Biedermann in the men\u2019s 200 freestyle (1:48.48) and Mark Warnecke in the 50 breaststroke.
