BERLIN, Germany, June 23. FRESH off a pair of wins on the opening day of competition, Helge Meeuw continued to excel on the second day of the German Championships. The meet is serving as the selection competition for this summer\u2019s European Championships in Budapest. After winning the 50 backstroke and 200 butterfly on Day One, Meeuw popped an impressive swim of 54.23 to win the 100 backstroke on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Meeuw has certainly emerged as a leading contender for the European title in the 100 backstroke. He was followed to the wall by Steffen Driesen (55.16) and Thomas Rupprath (55.17). Meanwhile, Dominique Lendjel prevailed in the 200 individual medley with a performance of 2:02.99. It was an effort that failed to generate high hopes for the Euro Champs.<\/p>\n
Janine Pietsch was the winner of the 100 backstroke on the female side as her effort of 1:01.06 provided a comfortable margin of victory over Antje Buschschulte (1:02.85). As for the 400 individual medley, Nicole Hetzer won the gold medal with a performance of 4:44.42, easily ahead of the 4:49.57 of Annika Mehlhorn.
