BLOOMINGTON, Indiana, June 18. CHRISTINA Loukas, a two-time selection as Big Ten Conference Diver of the Year, has been named Indiana University\u2019s Female Athlete of the Year. Loukas was complemented on the male side by wrestler Joe Dubuque, a two-time national champion on the mat at 125 pounds.<\/p>\n
A sophomore, Loukas capped a remarkable year at the NCAA Championships by tying former IU standout diver Sara Reiling for the best all-around finish at an NCAA contest since the inclusion of the tower. Loukas became the first three-time championship finalist for the Hoosiers since Reiling dove in all three final sessions at the 2002 NCAA Championships. <\/p>\n
In 2002, Reiling claimed third on the one-meter, second on the three-meter and eighth on the platform. This year, Loukas placed fifth on the one-meter, second on the three-meter and sixth on the tower with a 290.10 total. Additionally, Loukas defended her Big Ten Diver of the Year and Diver of the Championships awards at the 2006 Big Ten Championships. With the back-to-back recognition, Loukas became the first Hoosier to do so since Reiling did it in 2002-03.
