WALNUT CREEK, Calif., May 20. THE Campolindo boys and the Carondelet girls captured their respective North Coast Section High School titles at the meet held in Walnut Creek, Calif. on May 20.<\/p>\n
On the boys\u2019 side of the equation, Campolindo tallied 282 points, while Northgate claimed second with 231 points. Acalenes took third with 185 points against Sir Francis Drake\u2019s fourth-place tally of 158. Las Lomas rounded out the top five with 132 points.<\/p>\n
For the girls, Carondelet captured the team title with 251 points, while Miramonte came in second with 207.5 points. Campolindo finished just behind in third with 207 points, while Foothill took fourth with 201 points. Monte Vista closed out the top five with 181 points.<\/p>\n
Liberty junior Kate Dwelley recorded the only meet record of the day in the 200 freestyle.<\/p>\n
Girls 200-yard medley relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Carondelet\u2019s contingent of Diandra Prutton, Alexa Powers, Courtney Bauer and Tina Levesque claimed a hard-fought triumph in the 200-yard medley relay over Campolindo\u2019s team of Ona Teerikorpi, Kathryn Skropeta, Chelsea Pfohl and Allison Merritt in a shootout for the title. The race came down to the final exchange as Levesque held off Merritt to touch in 1:47.68, while Campolindo secured second in 1:48.86.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Miramonte\u2019s squad of Heather White, Kate O\u2019Neil, Kelley Fernbacher and Emily Friedman placed third in 1:51.19.<\/p>\n
Boys 200-yard medley relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Campolindo came out on top in the boys 200-yard medley relay during a race which never seemed in doubt after the initial 25 yards. The senior laden group of Tristan Kaiser, Tyler Schlenker, Jesse Krompier and Alex Stuart cruised to victory in 1:36.02, while Acalanes\u2019 crew of Shane Tusup, Joe Curley, Nick Ferrif and Matt Boone finished second in 1:37.55.<\/p>\n
Northgate\u2019s team of Scott Sorensen, Nick Campbell, Anthony Pennisi and Scott Campbell closed out the top three in 1:38.06.<\/p>\n
Girls 200-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Liberty junior Kate Dwelley scored the meet\u2019s first record as she erased an eight-year-old standard in the 200 free. Dwelley\u2019s 1:46.28 eclipsed the 1:47.69 previously set by Sylvia Berknyei of Carondelet in 1998.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Foothill senior Jen Narum placed a distant second in 1:51.72, while Carondelet\u2019s Bauer rang up a third-place 1:53.94.<\/p>\n
Boys 200-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
California senior Scott Vogelgesang rolled to victory in the 200 free with a 1:41.52, while Miramonte senior Kris Kao snared silver in 1:43.64. Meanwhile, Acalenes senior Shana Tusup placed third in 1:44.41. Vogelgesang jumped out to a half-second lead and never looked back in the event.<\/p>\n
Girls 200-yard IM<\/b><\/p>\n
Miramonte\u2019s White dominated the 200 IM with nearly a five-second triumph to touch in 2:01.98. Meanwhile, Foothill sophomore Lisa Narum held off Montgomery sophomore Penelope Yamauchi for second as Narum clocked a 2:06.16, while Yamauchi recorded a 2:06.25.<\/p>\n
Boys 200-yard IM<\/b><\/p>\n
Northgate senior Nick Campbell\u2019s title in the event stood in doubt at the halfway mark before the young man stretched his lead in the third length to win in 1:54.17. Bishop O\u2019Dowd senior Darren Pagan provided Campbell\u2019s motivation with a close second-place 1:55.08, while College Prep junior Colin Hanna finished third in 1:56.89.<\/p>\n
Girls 50-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Monte Vista junior Kimberly Bierwith ripped off a first-place 23.97 in the sprint freestyle, while Carondelet\u2019s Levesque came in just behind with a 24.17. Additionally, Branson sophomore Cristy Meier rounded out the top three with a 24.43.<\/p>\n
Boys 50-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
In one of the closest battles of the meet, Campolindo teammates senior Mark Shveyd and senior Alex Stuart staged an epic battle in the 50 free. Shveyd, however, came out on top by the slimmest of margins with a 21.58 against Stuart\u2019s 21.59. Meanwhile, St. Mary\u2019s Alex Cushing joined the Campolindo duo under 22 seconds with a third-place 21.89.<\/p>\n
Girls one-meter diving<\/b><\/p>\n
During the diving break, Amador Valley senior Ali Giordano came through with a title-winning tally of 394.30, while Foothill junior Rebecca Payne placed second with a 381.60. Additionally, Salesian junior Theresa Wilks snared third with a 374.55.<\/p>\n
Boys one-meter diving<\/b><\/p>\n
Berkeley junior Williams Sweezer left no doubt in the boys one-meter with a 20-point win after amassing 431.55 points in his win. Antioch sophomore Trevor Graifman claimed second with 409.40, while San Ramon Valley sophomore also eclipsed the 400-point threshold with a third-place tally of 401.55.<\/p>\n
Girls 100-yard butterfly<\/b><\/p>\n
Montgomery junior Amanda Sims, the meet-record holder in the event, cruised to gold in the 100 fly with a dominant 53.59. Meanwhile, Campolindo\u2019s Pfohl came from behind for second place with a 57.49, while Albany sophomore Ursula Dailey placed third in 57.59.<\/p>\n
Boys 100-yard butterfly<\/b><\/p>\n
Campolindo\u2019s Krompier scored a victory in the 100 fly by touching in 50.26, while Las Lomas senior Tyler Angelo grabbed silver in 51.18. Meanwhile, Sir Francis Drake senior Paul Birich picked up third in 51.70.<\/p>\n
Girls 100-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Liberty\u2019s Dwelley snagged another title with a 50.17 clocking in the 100 free. After leading by just over .2 seconds at the halfway point, the junior dropped the hammer to win by more than a second. Carondelet\u2019s Bauer came in second with a 51.91, while Miramonte senior Hope Thurman busted out with a third-place 52.41.<\/p>\n
Boys 100-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Bishop O\u2019Dowd\u2019s Pagan bounced back from missing a title in the 200 IM with a victory in the 100 free after touching in 47.20. Meanwhile, Castro Valley senior Matthew Oldenhage posted a second-place 47.49, while Northgate senior Steven Woods finished third in 47.60.<\/p>\n
Girls 500-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Foothill\u2019s Jen Narum dug herself out of an early hole to capture the 500 free crown in 4:56.57. Meanwhile, Las Lomas sophomore Shelley Harper cruised into second in 4:57.83, while Liberty junior Katelyn Brix grabbed third in 5:00.48.<\/p>\n
Boys 500-yard freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
California\u2019s Vogelgesang led wire-to-wire as he rolled to a first-place 4:37.69. Dublin freshman Galen Sollom-Brotherton picked up second-place honors in 4:41.99, while Sir Francis Drake junior Cullen Hennessy finished third in 4:42.83.<\/p>\n
Girls 200-yard freestyle relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Monte Vista\u2019s contingent of Georgia Cappelletti, Natalie Bierwith, Paige Bradley and Kimberly Bierwith countered out of an early deficit in the 200-yard freestyle relay to capture the title in 1:38.38. Meanwhile, Carondelet\u2019s corps of Tina Levesque, Alexa Powers, Stephanie Hess and Kelsey Lewis claimed silver in 1:39.38. Additionally, Redwood\u2019s team of Emily Trautner, Kristina Parsons, Sally Bellinger and Elizabeth Kamai rounded out the top three with a 1:39.54.<\/p>\n
Boys 200-yard freestyle relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Campolindo scored its second relay title as Stuart, Andrew Schneider, Dana Foster and Shveyd never trailed in a 1:26.57 triumph. Meanwhile, Northgate\u2019s team of Woods, Pennisi, J.W. Estes and Campbell finished second in 1:27.64, while Las Lomas\u2019 squad of Carter Richards, Carlos Martinez, Ryan Day and Tyler Angelo placed third in 1:28.78.<\/p>\n
Girls 100-yard backstroke<\/b><\/p>\n
In another epic contest, Montgomery\u2019s Sims and Miramonte\u2019s White tied for the title in 55.76. After falling behind at the halfway mark, White nearly posted a negative split to force the tie. Meanwhile, Carondelet junior Mariana Prutton rounded out the top three in 57.97.<\/p>\n
Boys 100-yard backstroke<\/b><\/p>\n
Campolindo\u2019s Krompier claimed his third title with a first-place 51.82 in the 100 back, while Acalenes teammates Tusup (52.24) and Boone (53.14) closed out the top three in the event.<\/p>\n
Girls 100-yard breaststroke<\/b><\/p>\n
In another dogfight, Windsor sophomore Kelsey Louden touched out Monte Vista freshman Paige Bradley in the 100 breast. Louden came back after trailing by .13 seconds at the halfway point to garner victory in 1:05.69. Meanwhile, Bradley clocked in with a second-place 1:05.72. Additionally, Carondelet\u2019s Lewis rounded out the top three in 1:06.29.<\/p>\n
Boys 100-yard breaststroke<\/b><\/p>\n
In the second consecutive close call of the meet, Campolindo\u2019s Schlenker picked up a .07 second triumph in 57.81, while Acalanes\u2019 Ferrif touched second in 57.88. Additionally, Granada sophomore Brandon Fischer came in third with a 58.13.<\/p>\n
Girls 400-yard freestyle relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Miramonte\u2019s contingent of White, Katie Ure, Kendall Weikert and Thurman rolled to the title with a 3:30.76, while Liberty\u2019s team of Buffy Ajimura, Brix, Karla Hill and Dwelley came in a close second with a time of 3:31.09. Meanwhile, Carondelet\u2019s crew of Levesque, Lewis, Prutton and Bauer captured bronze in 3:33.70.<\/p>\n
Boys 400-yard freestyle relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Northgate\u2019s group of Woods, Sorensen, Estes and Campbell picked up gold with a 3:10.52 after the Campolindo team denied itself the opportunity to sweep the relay events with a disqualification.
