BATON ROUGE – Kara Kopcso and Frank Greeff each won two individual events and were part of a winning relay Saturday afternoon to lead the Louisiana State University swimming and diving teams past University of the Incarnate Word. The LSU women won 203-92 and the men came out on top 188-104.<\/p>\n
The LSU men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving team defeated Incarnate Word behind strong performances by Frank Greeff for the Tigers and Kara Kopcso for the Lady Tigers. The women won 203-92, while the men took victory with a final score of 188-104.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe talked about making the most of our opportunity in the water today,\u201d LSU Swimming coach Dave Geyer said. \u201cWe were able to respond to some different things today and it was a good team victory.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 17th-ranked women\u2019s swimming and diving team moved to 3-2 on the year; while the men\u2019s team earned its first win of the year. The Lady Tigers took wins in 14 of the 16 events and the men earned wins in 13 of 16 events.<\/p>\n
On the diving side, senior Alex Bettridge swept both springboard events. Bettridge a final score of 318.80 on one-meter and 335.48 on three-meter. Sophomore Cassie Weil also finished second in both events. For the men, Daniel Helm finished first on one-meter (373.65) and Andrew Suchla finished first on three-meter (366.75).<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was our home pool so we didn\u2019t really have to adjust,\u201d LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. \u201cWe dove really consistent for both events today. As a whole, I\u2019m really happy with where we are and the steps we are building into Texas A&M next week.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kopcso, Taryn MacKenzie, Amber Carter, and Leah Troskot led off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.96). The team of Kate Zimmer, Colleen O\u2019Neil, Sophie Weber and Devon Dabney followed in second with a time of 1:44.53.<\/p>\n
The men’s team of Logan Rysemus, Silas Dejean, Greeff and Alex Linge then finished first in the men’s 200-medley relay with a time of 1:31.32. The team of Michael Young, Garrett House, Joao Mescolote and Devin McCaffrey followed in second (1:32.35).<\/p>\n
Caley Oquist started off the individual events with a win in the 1000 free (10:28.92). Stacey Stanfield touched the wall second with a time of 10:29.03.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Brandon Goldman finished third for the men in the 1000 free with a time of 9:37.24.<\/p>\n
The LSU men and women took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle. Kopcso touched the wall first for the women with a time of 1:50.86. Jane MacDougall and Jessie James followed in second and third place with times of 1:52.12 and 1:54.53 respectively. Greeff finished first for the men (1:39.91). Elliot Dewlen and Jake Markham followed with times of 1:41.74 and 1:41.96.<\/p>\n
The men and women also took the top three spots in the 100 back. Sophie Weber took home the win for the women (56.42) followed by Makenna Wilson (57.01) and Kate Zimmer (57.08). Daniel Swietlicki touched the wall first with a time of 49.76. Grant Grenfell and Austin Drummond followed in second and third place.<\/p>\n
MacKenzie earned the win for the Lady Tigers in the 100 breast (1:04.48) and Dejean touched the wall first for the men (55.41). Harry Ackland followed in second place with a time of 57.94.<\/p>\n
The 200 fly was another 1-2-3 finish for the Lady Tigers. Cox earned the win with a time of 2:01.80. Carter and Dabney followed with times of 2:03.90 and 2:08.19 respectively.<\/p>\n
Going into the final event before the first diving break, the 50 free, Troskot and Gonzalez took home the wins. Troskot finished in 23.55 and Gonzalez finished in 20.76.<\/p>\n
Greeff earned the win in the 100 free (45.82) followed by Braydon Bergeron (47.49). MacDougall and Zimmer finished second and third in the 100 free with times of 52.48 and 52.60.<\/p>\n
The Lady Tigers earned another 1-2-3 finish in the 200 back. Sepp touched the wall first with a time of 2:00.76. Makenna Wilson and Jennifer Reese followed with times of 2:03.45 and 2:03.62.<\/p>\n
Michael Young and Grant Grenfell then touched the wall first and second in the 200 back. Young finished with a time of 1:50.02 and Grenfell with a time of 1:50.49.<\/p>\n
The LSU men earned the top three spots in the 200 breast. Dejean led the way with a time of 2:02.00. Harry Ackland and Colin Finnegan followed with times of 2:09.10 and 2:14.06 respectively.<\/p>\n
In the 500 free, Stirrat and Dewlen earned the wins with times of 5:00.65 and 4:33.57. Markham finished second in the 500 with a time of 4:35.14.<\/p>\n
Cox touched the wall first in the 100 fly for her second win of the meet (55.62). Colleen O\u2019Neil finished second with a time of 56.76.<\/p>\n
The LSU men once again went 1-2-3, this time in the 100 fly. Linge touched the wall first (50.04), followed by Goldman (50.31) and Mescolote (50.84).<\/p>\n
After the final diving break, Kopcso came back and took the win in the 400 IM (4:28.92) She was followed by Oquist in second (4:30.04) and Weber in third (4:30.06).<\/p>\n
Both relay teams finished the meet with sweeps of the 200 free relay. Carter, MacDougall, Reese and O\u2019Neil won with a time of 1:36.01. Devin McCaffrey, Swietlicki, Markham and Damen Pheiffer won it on the men\u2019s side with a time of 1:23.26.<\/p>\n
The entire squad continues training before competing in the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station, Texas Nov. 20-22.<\/p>\n
