AUSTIN, TX – University of Texas senior Bryan Jones (College Station, Texas \/ A&M Consolidated) claimed individual-event victories in both the 50- and 100-meter freestyle competitions, while senior Jon Younghouse (Cape Girardeau, Mo. \/ Cape Central) finished first in both the 400- and 800-meter freestyle events to lead the top-ranked Longhorns to a 132-108 victory over No. 4 Auburn in dual-meet action on Saturday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. With this victory, head coach Eddie Reese’s Longhorns raise their dual-meet record to 4-0 on the season. <\/p>\n
In the 50-meter freestyle, 15-time All-American Jones edged out Auburn’s Aaron Ciarla, the defending NCAA champion in the 50-yard free, by 0.27 seconds, posting an NCAA consideration standard time of 22.11. Jones also touched in an NCAA consideration standard time of 49.26 in his 100-meter freestyle victory. <\/p>\n
Four-time All-American Younghouse also posted excellent times for the Longhorns, touching in 8:01.49 to claim first place in the 800-meter freestyle and posting an NCAA consideration standard time of 3:52.84 to win the 400-meter freestyle. <\/p>\n
Also claiming individual event victories for Texas were junior Nate Dusing (Villa Hills, Ky. \/ Covington Catholic), who touched first in the 200-meter individual medley, and junior Matt Ulrickson (Scottsdale, Airz. \/ Saguaro), the 200-meter backstroke winner. <\/p>\n
Relay events proved to be another strong point for the Longhorns, as Texas won the openning relay – the 400-meter medley – by over two seconds. The team of Ulrickson, Dusing, senior Russell Chozick (Austin, Texas \/ Westlake) and sophomore Robert Bogart (Colorado Springs, Colo. \/ Air Academy) combined to post an NCAA consideration standard time of 3:39.20 to claim victory in the meet’s first event. <\/p>\n
Auburn, the defending NCAA men’s swimming and diving champion, has now lost three consecutive dual meets to the Longhorns, including UT’s victory last season at Auburn which marked only the second loss by the Tigers in the five-year history of their Martin Aquatics Center. <\/p>\n
