VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 4. BRENT Hayden of Vancouver lowered his meet record on Saturday in the men\u2019s 50-meter freestyle at the Bell Grand Prix\/Mel Zajac Jr. International Swim Meet, which is being held this weekend at the UBC Aquatic Centre. Hayden clocked 22.92, eclipsing his own 22.96 meet record set last year. Matt Rose of Victoria was second at 23.24 and Joel Greenshields of Vancouver third at 24.01.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s 100 butterfly, Montreal\u2019s Thomas Kindler won the gold medal in 55.91 with Scott Rice of the U.S. second in 56.05 and Jonathon Blouin of Quebec City third in 56.08. In the women\u2019s 400 freestyle, Vancouver\u2019s Maya Beaudry was the winner in 4:21.00. Thirteen-year-old Savannagh King of Vernon, B.C., delivered another solid performance, placing second in 4:22.13. King finished ahead of Olympic relay champion Carly Piper of the U.S., third in 4:22.16. On Friday, she won the 1,500 freestyle by breaking double world championship medallist Brittany Reimer\u2019s provincial age group record.<\/p>\n
Other winners included Ryan Cochrane of Victoria in the men\u2019s 400 freestyle (4:03.32) while for the women other winners were Erin Gammel of Calgary in the 50 backstroke (29.68), Erica Morningstar of Calgary in the 50 freestyle (26.55) and Mackenzie Downing of Victoria in the 100 butterfly (1:01.06).<\/p>\n
Three swimmers also set meet records: Adam Mania in the 50 backstroke (26.06), Tamas Kerekjarto in the 200 individual medley (2:03.31) and Ariana Kukors in the women\u2019s 200 I.M. (2:15.80). Megan Jendrick won the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.45.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
