BROOKINGS \u2013 The upcoming weekend should have some strong swims among\u00a0Summit League swimming teams South Dakota State, South Dakota, Denver, Eastern Illinois, Omaha, IUPUI, and Western Illinois. The big meet is the Border Battle at Stevens Point, Wis.<\/p>\n

Looking Back<\/h2>\n

Last week University of South Dakota took on University of Nebraska \u2013 Omaha. Schutt again led the way, picking up three individual wins at the meet in the 200 free, 100 free, and 400 free. UNO won six events at the meet.
\nSouth Dakota State hosted in-state rivals University of South Dakota in a dual meet this past weekend. Both the men and women of SDSU won the meet and picked up wins in 21 events throughout the meet.<\/p>\n

Denver\u2019s men raced UNLV and the women raced Air Force last weekend. The Pioneers topped the Rebels with a score of 172-126 and the women took home the win at Air Force. Strong swims came from Sam Corea in the 100 back, posting a time of 55.06 and Dylan Bunch who won the 1000 free with a time of 9:30.42.<\/p>\n

Eastern Illinois took on Ball State. Both the women and the men lost the meet but still finished with 11 event wins for the day. First place finishes came from Kaylee Morris, Amy Smith, and Paige Eavenson.<\/p>\n

The IUPUI men\u2019s team fell to Wright State. The loss puts the Jags at a 2-4 in dual meets for this season. It was a tough day of racing for the men, only taking home one event win for the meet. Freshman Jon Stoller picked up the win in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n

Western Illinois split in their meet against Valparaiso. The men found victory with a score of 108-95 while the women were on the losing side with a score of 120-84. The Leatherneck collected 9 even wins for the day.<\/p>\n

South Dakota State University (SDSU)<\/h2>\n

The SDSU Lady Jacks will travel to Omaha this weekend. The women hope to use the momentum coming off their win against the \u2018Yotes in their dual with Omaha. The Jacks will look for senior Emily Campbell to lead the team in breaststroke events. After Alex Yeager\u2019s impressive time of 2:08.99 in the 200 fly, the team will look to her for a strong showing in that event. Sam Prasher and Cassie Hendricks will be key point scorers in the backstroke events.<\/p>\n

University of South Dakota (USD)<\/h2>\n

This weekend the Coyotes will head to Stevens Point, Wisconsin to compete in the 2-day Border Battle. USD will again be looking to Schutt to bring some big points in the freestyle events. Senior Nick Schutt will also be key on the guys side to score points in freestyle events.<\/p>\n

Denver University (DU)<\/h2>\n

Denver does not have any meets this weekend.<\/p>\n

Eastern Illinois University (EIU)<\/h2>\n

This weekend the Panthers will host Valparaiso. EIU will be looking for Kaylee Morris to pick up wins in the sprint freestyles and to freshman Amy Smith to make waves in the backstroke events. Sophomore Harris Thompson has been having great swims in distance events so the Panthers will need him to score points in those events.<\/p>\n

University of Nebraska \u2013 Omaha (UNO)<\/h2>\n

UNO will be hosting the SDSU Jacks this weekend. Sophomore Morgan Stepp and senior Jenna Foiles have been scoring big points in past meets. Keep an eye on these ladies to put up good times at the dual against the Jacks.<\/p>\n

Indiana University \u2013 Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)<\/h2>\n

IUPUI has no meets this coming weekend.<\/p>\n

Western Illinois University (WIU)<\/h2>\n

WIU has no meets this coming weekend.<\/p>\n

Summit League Swimmers of the Week<\/h2>\n

The Summit League announced their new picks for swimmers of the week. The men\u2019s award is given to SDSU senior Alex McLain. This is McLain\u2019s second career award for swimmer of the week. McLain swept the backstroke events at the duel against league rival USD. Both times put McLain in the top-10 times in the league. The women\u2019s award goes to Sam Schutt for the third time this season and the fourth time in her career. Schutt took first in every event she swam this weekend in both the duel with Omaha and the duel with SDSU.<\/p>\n

Also nominated for swimmer of the week this week were Dylan Bunch from Denver, Nick Schutt from USD, Chris Neaveill from WIU, Johanna Ross from Denver, Emily Campbell from SDSU, and Julia Rasmussen from WIU.<\/p>\n

Katya Vakshteyn is a freshman middle-distance freestyler at South Dakota State University. \u00a0Prior to college, she spent 10 years training with the Kansas City Blazers and was a high school state runner-up in the 200 free in Kansas.<\/em><\/p>\n
