For more information about Agon, visit their website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agonswim.com\">Agonswim.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>MESA \u2013 The Brophy College Prep High School boys and Chaparral High School girls ran away with the Arizona High School Division I Swimming and Diving state titles this evening at Mesa Aquatic Center, highlighted by a national age group record by Chaparral\u2019s Ryan Hoffer.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Division I Boys<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Chaparral kicked off the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, as Ryan Hoffer, Marcello Quarante, Niccolo Quarante and Sam Acheson touched first in 1:34.32. Mountain View finished right behind as Jared Moreno, Mark Weser, Bryce Kuchan and Kyle Zabokrtsky touched in 1:34.53. Brophy College Prep, represented by Calvin Higgins, Sean Gage, Isaiah Williams and DJ Brown, came in third at 1:34.75.<\/p>\n<p>Cactus Shadows\u2019 Connor Stirling cruised to a two-second win in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:37.54. Brophy College Prep\u2019s Jack Blake (1:39.70) and Highland\u2019s Kyle Ewoldt (1:40.33) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 IM, Chandler\u2019s Mark Jurek posted a three second win with a 1:47.03, lowering the previous state record of 1:48.31 by more than a second. Arcadia\u2019s Matt Anderson solidified second with a 1:50.13, while Horizon\u2019s Ben Olszewski came in third with a 1:52.86.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral sophomore Ryan Hoffer became the fastest 15-16 year old in U.S. swimming history in the 50 free with a record-breaking swim of 19.53 in finals. That cut .01 off his own national age group record of 19.54, and .02 off the previous state record of 19.55. Brophy College Prep\u2019s Grady Ottomeyer finished a distant second in 21.29, while Seth Calvagno of Liberty snuck in for third at 21.61.<\/p>\n<p>Sunnyslope\u2019s Emmott Blitch and Skyline\u2019s Eric Muir battled it out in the diving well, with Blitch coming out on top by five points, 445.75 to 440.00. Chaparral\u2019s Braden Huffman came in third with 390.00 points.<\/p>\n<p>Following the diving break, Chandler\u2019s Mark Jurek picked up his second state title of the afternoon in the 100 fly, tying the state record with a 47.80. Bryce Kuchan of Mountain View also broke 50 with a 49.56 to take second, while Highland\u2019s Kyle Ewoldt swam a 50.10 to finish third.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral\u2019s Ryan Hoffer nearly set a second national age group record in the 100 free, just missing his own record by .07 with a 43.20. That did get under the state record of 43.71, and was .68 in front of Cactus Shadows\u2019 Connor Stirling (43.88). Jack Blake of Brophy College Prep separated himself from the pack for third with a 45.12.<\/p>\n<p>Horizon\u2019s Ben Olszewski cut more than six seconds off his prelim time in the 500 free to win in 4:21.48, more than six seconds under the previous state record of 4:27.67, and six seconds in front of second place finisher Thomas Ottman of Brophy College Prep (4:27.78). Aaron Apel of Pinnacle, the second seed after prelims, wound up third in the final with a 4:28.54.<\/p>\n<p>Brophy College Prep owned the 200 free relay, as DJ Brown, Grady Ottomeyer, Sean Gage and Jack Blake swam a 1:23.85, nearly two seconds ahead of Desert Vista\u2019s Dietrich Benz, Clark Quattrocchi, Grant Bowers and Dustin Turney (1:25.80). Mountain View\u2019s quartet of Pavle Lakovic, Luke Lyons, Bryce Kuchan and Kyle Zabokrtsky came in third with a 1:26.37.<\/p>\n<p>Desert Vista\u2019s Joshua Vedder was the class of the field in the 100 back, stopping the clock at 50.70 to top Horizon\u2019s Kaleb Gould (51.24) by just over half a second. Arcadia\u2019s Joe Skelly rounded out the top three in 51.70.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing second in the 200 IM earlier in the meet, Arcadia\u2019s Matt Anderson upgraded to first in the 100 breast with a 54.76, just off his prelim swim of 54.61. Hamilton\u2019s Ty Dang out-swam Chaparral\u2019s Marcello Quarante for second, 56.42 to 56.48.<\/p>\n<p>Brophy College Prep closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay as Thomas Ottman, Isaiah Williams, Grady Ottomeyer and Jack Blake stopped the clock in 3:03.93, more than a second under the previous state record of 3:05.12. Desert Vista\u2019s Joshua Vedder, Grant Bowers, Tyler Dennis and Dietrich Benz came in second at 3:09.48, followed by Mountain View\u2019s Pavle Lakovic, Bryce Kuchan, Jared Moreno and Luke Lyons in 3:10.53.<\/p>\n<p>Brophy College Prep scored 341 points to top Mountain View (212 points) and Horizon (202 points) for the Division I title.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Division I Girls<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Chaparral girls opened up their meet with a win and a new state record in the 200 medley relay at 1:43.25. Pinnacle stayed in contact and finished second in 1:44.83, followed by Desert Vista in 1:47.89.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral freshman Taylor Ruck made a grand entrance to the high school state meet scene with a 1:46.76 in the 200 free, lowering her own state record of 1:46.90 from prelims. Chandler\u2019s Jocelyn Wang touched three seconds behind in 1:50.22, followed by her teammate Adriana Palomino in 1:51.15.<\/p>\n<p>Arcadia\u2019s Savanna Carlson put up a 2:02.07 to win the 200 IM over Desert Mountain\u2019s Katie Shannahan (2:02.98). Mountain Pointe\u2019s Grace Horvath out-swam two other swimmers down the stretch to wrap up third in 2:05.34.<\/p>\n<p>Pinnacle senior Sam Fazio captured a state title in her final high school meet, topping the 50 free by four tenths with a 23.27. Xavier College Prep\u2019s Aimee Hatfield claimed second by .03 ahead of Pinnacle\u2019s Victoria Toris, 23.67 to 23.70.<\/p>\n<p>In 1-meter diving, O\u2019Connor\u2019s Skylar Williams topped Desert Ridge\u2019s Morgan Mellow by less than five points for the title, 425.55 to 420.90. Katie Deininger of Cactus Shadows came in third with 415.00 points.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing second in the 200 IM, Desert Mountain\u2019s Katie Shannahan moved up a spot on the podium in the 100 fly, out-racing Chaparral\u2019s Emma Segneri for the win, 54.99 to 55.08. Another Emma from Chaparral, Emma Broome, rounded out the top three in 55.30.<\/p>\n<p>Savanna Carlson of Arcadia went two-for-two in her individual events, stopping the clock in 50.74 to win the 100 free, in addition to her 200 IM win earlier. Pinnacle\u2019s Victoria Toris picked up another top three finish with her 51.15 for second, while Chandler\u2019s Jocelyn Wang rounded out the top three in 51.90.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Ruck swept the 200 and 500 freestyles at the meet, putting up a 4:52.11 in the 500 to start her high school career undefeated. Desert Vista\u2019s Shae Nicolaisen, also a freshman, took second in 4:55.88 to set up what could be a great battle over the next three years. Adriana Palomino of Chandler wrapped up third in 4:58.96.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral went two-for-two in the relays, with Gabriella Fagan, Emma Segneri, Olivia Wang and Taylor Ruck posting a 1:35.04 in the 200 free relay. That cleared the previous state record of 1:35.21. Xavier College Prep, represented by Allie Worrall, Elise Roediger, Alice Hick and Aimee Hatfield, came in second with a 1:36.56, while Pinnacle\u2019s Zoe Rosin, Grace LaPorte, Hayley Hill and Victoria Toris came in third with a 1:37.09.<\/p>\n<p>Arcadia\u2019s Matti Harrison and Chaparral\u2019s Emma Broome fought it out to the finish in the 100 back, with Harrison just getting the better of Broome at the wall, 55.36 to 55.47. Pinnacle\u2019s Sam Fazio earned another podium finish with her 56.52.<\/p>\n<p>Pinnacle\u2019s Alyson Yancy was the class of the field in the 100 breast, cruising to victory in 1:03.07, comfortably ahead of Perry\u2019s Raevin Richardson (1:04.50) and Mountain Pointe\u2019s Grace Horvath (1:04.87).<\/p>\n<p>Pinnacle closed out the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay in 3:26.86, thanks to Julie Gibson, Hayley Hill, Sam Fazio and Victoria Toris. Chaparral\u2019s Emma Broome, Gillian Rieth, Gabriella Fagan and Taylor Ruck finished second in 3:28.52 to clinch the team title.
