{"id":113841,"date":"2014-11-07T19:33:21","date_gmt":"2014-11-08T02:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=113841"},"modified":"2014-11-07T19:33:21","modified_gmt":"2014-11-08T02:33:21","slug":"utah-mens-swimming-clinches-win-colorado-mesa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/utah-mens-swimming-clinches-win-colorado-mesa\/","title":{"rendered":"Utah Men&#8217;s Swimming Clinches Win Against Colorado Mesa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Photo Courtesy: Tia Patron\/Tennessee Athletics<\/p>\n<p>SALT LAKE CITY &#8211; The Utah men\u2019s swimming and diving team improved to 6-0 on the season following a 179-101 dual-meet victory over Colorado Mesa Friday afternoon at Ute Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>The Utes recorded 15 first-place finishes out of 16 events on the day, with junior Bence Kiraly, freshman Ben Scott and junior diver Jacob Crayne each winning two events in the meet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to thank Colorado Mesa for coming out for giving us a chance to have a home men\u2019s meet this fall,\u201d said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. \u201cWe are really appreciative of them for making the drive out here from Grand Junction to give us some racing today. That being said, the racing on our part was not very good. It was sloppy across the boards. We had some individual bright spots. But overall, I am disappointed with the lack of focus and lack of execution today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crane took first in the one-meter event with a score of 300.22 and then tallied a career-high in the three-meter with a score of 390.75, which ranks as the second-highest score in program history behind Sterling Richards\u2019 school record score of 412.65.<\/p>\n<p>Utah went one, two, three in the 200 medley relay as Nick Soedel, Kiraly, Kristian Kron and Alex Fernandes teamed up and touched first with a time of 1:31.93. Taking second in the relay was team of Brandon Deckard, Jack Burton, David Fraser and Alex Brown (1:32.75), while the team of Ben Scott, Brandon Young, Kristian Almberg and Sean Bloore finished in third (1:36.99).<\/p>\n<p>Taking first in the 1,000 free was Peter Koston with a time of 9:36.48 and he was followed by Andy Cunningham in second (9:36.58), with Calvin Rogers taking fourth (9:48.84) and Robby Miner in fifth (10:10.04).<\/p>\n<p>Brandon Shreeve touched in first in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.13 and Austin Phillips followed in second (1:43.26). Brendan Nguyen took third (1:44.49) in the event as well.<\/p>\n<p>Scott took top honors in the 100 back with a time of 51.73, while Fraser managed to come in third (52.48) and Brown taking fourth (55.13). Scott also took first in the 100 fly with a time of 51.92.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Mesa came away with the win in the 100 breast as Joshua Bedford touched first in 59.62. Taking second in the event was Utah\u2019s Keanu Interone (59.89), with Fernandes behind him in third (1:00.05) and Ganem Tebet coming in fourth (1:00.13).<\/p>\n<p>Kiraly came away with the win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.60 and Macias finished in second (1:51.76), while Kron took third in the event (1:51.87). Kiraly picked up his second first-place finish of the day after touching first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:00.02.<\/p>\n<p>Touching in first in the 500 free was Kron with a time of 4:37.49.<\/p>\n<p>Claiming the top spot in the 50 free was Soedel with a time of 20.54. Also coming away with a win was Fernandes in the 100 free with a time of 46.13.<\/p>\n<p>Deckard touched in first in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.23.
