LOUISVILLE, Kentucky. May, 19. ALANA Berrocal of Jupiter, Fla., Laura Clark of Wokjolf, Ohio, Elizabeth Halet of Minneapolis, Minn., have all signed national letters of intent to continue their swimming careers at the University of Louisville. Stephanie Osucha of Lone Oak, Ky. will be transferring to U of L from Lindenwood University. <\/p>\n
"The depth this class is phenomenal, across the board. These ladies
\nin combination with our returnees. I am very pleased with this class,"
\nsaid head coach Arthur Albiero, who is in his third season with the
\nCardinals. "We are excited about this class, all of these them have a
\ngreat blend of ability and character. We expect this group of ladies to
\nbe our future leaders who will produce great success for us in the Big
\nEast and in the NCAA."<\/p>\n
Berrocal is the daughter of former Olympian for Puerto Rico and NCAA
\nChampion, Carlos Berrocal. She comes to Louisville from Jupiter Florida.
\nAs a 100- and 200-backstroker, Alana will represent Puerto Rico this
\nsummer at the Caribbean and Central American Games held in Colombia.
\nAlong with her specialty backstroke, she will also swim freestyle events
\nfor UofL.<\/p>\n
"Alana is a great new addition for the team. Her unwavering passion
\nfor the sport fits in great with our team mission and vision" said
\nCoach Albiero. <\/p>\n
Laura Clark, joins the aquatic Cardinal roster from Wokjolf, Ohio. A
\nswimmer from Coach Jerry Holtry's successful Lake Erie Silver Dolphins
\nClub, Laura brings an strong work ethic in the distance freestyle
\nevents. She was a finalist in the Ohio High School State Championships
\nin both the 200- and 500- freestyle events as both a junior and a
\nsenior. <\/p>\n
"Laura joins the Cardinals with a burning desire for training and be
\na part of something special, we are excited for her future," said
\nAlbiero. <\/p>\n
Elizabeth Halet of Minneapolis, Minn. will swim the freestyle events,
\nand is expected to be an impact swimmer on relays. This past year, Liz
\nwas the Minnesota High School State Champion in the 100-free and
\nrunner-up in the 200-freestyle. She also was finalist in the 50- and
\n100-freestyle at the Junior National Championships held this past March
\nin Orlando, Florida. <\/p>\n
"Those who know her described her as having major untapped
\npotential" said Coach Albiero, "I am looking forward to working
\nwith her and the tenacious commitment she brings to the pool and to the
\nclassroom. Louisville is a great fit for her, and for us."<\/p>\n
And transferring from Lindenwood University is Kentucky native,
\nStephanie Osucha of Lone Oak, Ky. She was a finalist at the 2005
\nKentucky High School State Championships in the 100-breaststroke.<\/p>\n
"It is important that we have student-athletes from our home state,
\nand even better that she is coming back to her roots. She is excited,
\nand we are excited to welcome her. I know she will be a great
\naddition," said Albiero. <\/p>\n
This brings the incoming class for the 2006-2007 season to seven
\nsignees with addition the three November early signings of Karen Criss,
\nAmanda Henleben, and Anna Dishuck.<\/p>\n
"I really think that this years recruiting rounded out nicely. As I
\nmentioned before, this is a great combination that the women's team
\nhave heading into this coming season," said Albiero. "We're extremely
\npleased with the addition of these four women to our swimming program,
\nand all seven of them are a high caliber athletes that will continue to
