PHOENIX – The FINA World Cup is complete and we saw some amazing performances in the short course pool over seven meets. Chad Le Clos was already secured of winning the overall men\u2019s points rankings and a $100,000 bonus, but apparently that wasn\u2019t enough for the Olympic champion. On Sunday, Le Clos stepped up for the 100 fly final in Singapore, his final race of the meet, and it will probably turn out to be one his most memorable of the entire circuit.<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Going out in 22.66 at 50 meters, Le Clos was under Evgeny Korotyshkin\u2019s world record pace by two tenths of a second. After so many close calls throughout the series that included just missing the world records in the 50 and 200 butterfly events the day before, it looked like Le Clos was going to get that $10,000 bonus for breaking a world record. But Le Clos couldn\u2019t quite beat the world record of 48.48, swimming a 48.74.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve been watching our Performance of the Week shows you will remember that we gave Chad the honor three weeks ago for his 100 fly in Hong Kong. While that week we recognized the time, we\u2019re honoring the performance itself this week. That win in Singapore was his 27th victory of the World Cup, giving him a perfect record in the 2014 edition, something no overall winner \u2013 not even the Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu \u2013 has ever done.
