Gillig picked up her second individual win with a solid showing in the 200 backstroke (2:02.11).

Momentum remained consistent as Maren Reeder seized a close victory in the 200 breastroke, clocking in at 2:23.24. Veteran Erin Dunseith touched the wall at a mark of 4:58.53, asserting the first-place standing in the 500 freestyle.

Senior Aliena Schmidtke was successful in the 100 butterfly, winning with a time of 55.67. Davis ended her night on a strong note, earning a first-place touch in the 200 individual medley (2:07.04).

A contingent of Kaitlyn Ferrara, Sprau, Schmidtke and Clary closed the meet with a solid showing in the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.29).

Ohio State will return to action at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 7 for a double-dual meet vs. Dennison and Princeton. Races are set to begin at 5 p.m.

Ohio State Men’s Press Release

The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team continued its strong start to the season, with a 163.5-115.5 win over Kenyon on Friday evening at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The “A” team of Steven Zimmerman, DJ MacDonald, Matt McHugh and Josh Fleagle kicked off the competition with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:29.17). The Buckeyes completed a sweep of the top-three spots, earning 15 points toward the team total.

In the 1000 freestyle, rookie Brayden Seal finished in first place (9:20.60). Seal just out-touched his Buckeye teammate Jovan Mitrovic, who was runner-up with a time of 9:20.79. Steffen Hillmer followed it up with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:39.11), continuing to build momentum for the Scarlet and Gray.

Zimmerman earned his second win of the meet in the 100 backstroke (49.00), while his relay partner MacDonald also picked up another win by touching first in the 100 breaststroke (54.96). In the 200 butterfly, freshman Ching Lim placed first in a time of 1:49.47.

The 50 freestyle event went to Fleagle, who recorded a mark of 20.30. The Buckeye junior went back-to-back with first-place touches, winning the 100 freestyle in 44.33 as well.

Finishing fastest for the third time vs. the Lords, Zimmerman claimed the 200 backstroke in 1:47.17. MacDonald was the next repeat offender for the Scarlet and Gray, earning first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.17).

Completing a sweep in distance events, Seal earned a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:31.34.

Near the conclusion of the meet Ohio State competed in a non-scoring fashion. However, McHugh posted the fastest time in the 100 butterfly (49.20), while Gercsak touched first in the 200 individual medley (1:50.90). The Buckeyes also outlasted the Lords in the 400 freestyle relay behind swims from Fleagle, Andrew Appleby, Vladislov Komarov and Steffen Hillmer (3:01.19).

In diving, Stephen Romanik earned a top score of 386.70 in the 1-meter competition, while Stephen Ettienne posted a 411.23 on the three-meter dive.

Next up, Ohio State will welcome Princeton and Denison at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion for a two-day, double-dual meet Nov. 7-8. On Friday, races will begin at 5 p.m., while competition will resume Saturday at 11 a.m.

Kenyon Women’s Press Release

In its first dual meet of the season, the Kenyon College Ladies swimming and diving team could not keep up with the NCAA Division I Ohio State University Buckeyes. Friday night at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, the host Buckeyes rattled off 14 straight event wins en route to a 191-86 victory over the NCAA Division III Ladies.

While Ohio State was whipping up a string of wins, the Ladies looked to some veteran swimmers to pull up in runner-up spots. Junior Mariah Williamson, a distance specialist, claimed a pair of those second-place spots for Kenyon. She did so in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:17.23) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.32).

Other individual runner-up finishes for the Kenyon women came from Katie Kaestner, Hannah Cooper, and Ellie Crawford. Kaestner, a junior, was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.73). Cooper, a senior, was second in the 100-yard butterfly (58.87), while Crawford, a sophomore, was runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.83).

Ohio State only took its foot off the gas pedal in the diving competitions. Buckeye divers entered those two events as an exhibition, making some room for Kenyon junior Maria Zarka to claim first place on both the one-meter (260.03) and three-meter (277.58) boards.

The Ladies have little time to reflect on their results. They return home to host the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Kenyon Men’s Press Release

The Kenyon College Lords swimming and diving team made the short trip west to compete Friday night in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion against the host Ohio State University Buckeyes. The NCAA Division I Buckeyes proved too powerful for the Lords to overcome in what turned out to be a 163.5-115.5 victory for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes won 11 straight events before going into exhibition mode. When they made that move, it cleared the way for a few Kenyon wins. Junior Christian Josephson claimed the first of those wins, as he took the 100-yard butterfly in 51.65. The next event, the 200-yard individual medley, was won by Kenyon again. This time it was sophomore Trevor Manz who touched first. He did so in a time of 1:55.41.

Finishing off the scored swimming events, the Lords claimed the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Kenyon quartet of Joey Duronio, Percy Gates, Wes Manz, and Austin Pu took the event in a time of 3:07.12.

Ohio State competed in the diving events as an exhibition as well, allowing space for Kenyon sophomore Derek Hoare to take first place in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Hoare scored 234.75 on the one-meter board and then tallied a score of 290.93 on the three-meter board.

The Lords don’t have much time to think about the loss. They return home to host the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

<a
