A big hometown crowd highlighted the Gophers wins over Iowa. The night included free t-shirts, costumes and a Goldy dressed as Spiderman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 MEDLEY RELAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The relay team of Katelyn Holmquist, Rae Bullinger, Danielle Nack and Abigail Raatz claimed second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.14, after the \u201cA\u201d relay disqualified.<\/p>\n<p>The Minnesota men followed suit, placing second with a time of 1:30.23. Members included Daryl Turner, Conner McHugh, Paul Fair and Ryan Miksch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1000 FREE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senior Kiera Janzen finished with a 9:46.84 in the 1000 freestyle for first place. Sam Harding (9:57.83) and Brooke Lorentzen (10:08.80) went 3-4 in the event for the Gophers.<\/p>\n<p>CJ Smith finished the 1000 free over 12 seconds faster than Iowa\u2019s top swimmer. Smith finished first with a time of 9:10.32.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 FREE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Junior Lauren Votava took first in the 200 free, finishing with a time of 1:49.13. Jessica Plant followed, finishing second with a time of 1:49.46.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, Paul Fair finished strong with a time of 1:40.13 to take home the gold. Erick Huft took third with a 1:40.68.<\/p>\n<p><strong>100 BACK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tori Simenec finished with a 55.43 in the 100 back for second place. Katelyn Holmquist finished fourth with a time of 57.06.<\/p>\n<p><strong>100 BREAST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blake Zeiger (1:04.77) and Rae Bullinger (1:05.42) took second and third place in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s team followed suit, placing second and third in the 100 breast. Freshman Conner McHugh finished with a time of 56.03, followed by Jakub Maly (56.92).<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 FLY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senior Devin Ste. Marie finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.45. Sophomore Maddie Hoch followed, placing second with a time of 2:03.36.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Orf finished second in the men\u2019s 200 fly with a 1:48.67.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50 FREE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Becca Weiland led the women in the 50 free with a time of 22.94. Abigail Raatz, Alli Schumacher andDanielle Nack followed suit, sweeping the event.<\/p>\n<p>Daryl Turner picked up a first-place finish in the 50 free, the sophomore finished with a time of 20.48. Sophomore Ian Gordon finished fourth with a time of 21.08.<\/p>\n<p><strong>100 FREE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lauren Votava picked up her second win of the night in the 100 free, finishing first with a time of 50.42. Becca Weiland finished second with a time of 50.47.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Fair finished second in the 100 free with a time of 45.54. Ryan Miksch followed with a time of 46.04.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 BACK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Freshman Brooke Zeiger finished first in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.37; Maddie Hoch finished third with a time of 2:03.21.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Carl Newenhouse finished with a time of 1:47.60 in the 200 back for second place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 BREAST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blake Zeiger finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.19.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Conner McHugh finished with a time of 2:02.01 in the 200 breast for second place in the event.Jakub Maly followed for third with a time of 2:03.19.<\/p>\n<p><strong>500 FREE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senior Kiera Janzen picked up her second win of the night in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.04. Junior Sam Harding followed with a time of 4:52.55.<\/p>\n<p><strong>100 FLY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Freshman Danielle Nack placed first in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 54.61. Sophomore Alli Schumacher followed with a time of 56.12.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Orf placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 50.02.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Freshman Brooke Zeiger had her second win of the night after finishing first in the 200 IM, the rookie finished with a time of 2:03.21.<\/p>\n<p>Jakub Maly picked up a much-needed win in the 200 IM for the Gophers. The sophomore finished with a time of 1:50.14. Andrew Hartbarger followed with a time of 1:51.17.<\/p>\n<p><strong>400 FREE RELAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Gopher women took first and second in the last meet of the night. Lauren Votava, Becca Weiland, Blake Zeiger and Jessica Plant took first with a time of 3:23.93.<\/p>\n<p>Daryl Turner, Paul Fair, Ryan Miksch and Carl Newenhouse finished with a time of 2:59.93 in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 METER DIVING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yu Zhou finished first on the women&#8217;s one-meter board. Zhou totaled 329.48 points. Teammates Katy Etterman and Lexi Tenenbaum followed for second and third place.<\/p>\n<p>Junior Manny Pollard took home the gold on the men&#8217;s one-meter, finishing with a total of 360.45 points in the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3 METER DIVING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lext Tenenbaum placed first on the three-meter, totaling 322.73 points in the event. Katy Etterman took third with 295.20 points.<\/p>\n<p>Manny Pollard swept the diving competition when he placed first on the three-meter. Pollard had 388.73 points on the night. The Hawkeyes (2-2) recorded four first-place finishes to go along with three runner-up spots.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m really proud of our team tonight,&#8221; said UI head coach Marc Long. &#8220;It&#8217;s disappointing to lose but we stayed in there, we battled, and we competed. Our team was hungry tonight, we performed well, and we&#8217;re going to bounce back from this and keep improving. We&#8217;ve got the type of energy you want in the team and it&#8217;s exactly what we expect from them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Iowa got off to an exciting start in the opening race, swimming to a victory in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Meghan Lavelle, Emma Sougstad, Tereysa Lehnertz, and Olivia Kabacinski swam to a season-best time of 1:43.13.<\/p>\n<p>Sougstad led the way for the Hawkeyes, posting two NCAA `B&#8217; cut times, three top finishes, and a third-place finish in her final race. The Forest City, Iowa, native posted top times in the 200 medley relay (1:43.13), 200 breaststroke (2:15.66), 100 breaststroke (1:01.28), and finished third in the 400 free relay (3:27.90).<\/p>\n<p>The Hawkeyes claimed three of the top four spots in the 200 breaststroke. With a top finish from Sougstad, junior Colleen Champa claimed third-place (2:21.26), and freshmen Shea Hoyt took fourth-place with a time of 2:22.25.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomer Rowan Hauber had a strong showing in the 200 backstroke with a first-place time of 2:01.33. The Tualatin, Oregon, native also finished runner-up in the 200 backstroke (2:01.33).<\/p>\n<p>In the 1,000 freestyle, Becky Stoughton took second-place with a time of 9:50.38. The Peoria, Illinois, native swam to a third-place finish with a season-best time in the 500 freestyle (4:52.68).<\/p>\n<p>In the diving well, the Hawkeyes posted top-five finishes in both 1-meter diving and 3-meter competition. Kelba led the way in 1-meter competition diving to a fourth-place finish (279.90). Christy placed fifth with a score of 278.33. In 3-meter competition Christy finished runner-up with a season-best 306.38. Lydia Lehnert finished fifth with a score of 274.73.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did a good job tonight,&#8221; said UI diving coach Todd Waikel. &#8220;We fought hard and battled all night. Our girls are headed in the right direction and we&#8217;re going to get back into the pool and keep improving. The Krakow, Poland, native swam to first-place finishes and season-best times in the 200 medley relay (1:29.46), 200 butterfly (1:47.55), and 100 butterfly (48.65)<\/p>\n<p>Trussov also had a trio of first-place finishes posting top times in the 200 medley relay (1:29.46) 100 breaststroke (55.56), and a season-best time in the 200 breaststroke (2:00.81). The Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, native placed third as a member of the 400 freestyle relay quartet alongside Brandon Farnum, Charles Holliday, and RJ Hemmingson. The quartet posted a time of 3:05.14.<\/p>\n<p>In the 100 free, Jackson Allen swam to a first-place finish with a season-best time of 45.50. The Monona, Wisconsin, native also posted second-place finishes in the 50 free (20.61) and as a member of the 400 free alongside David Ernstsson, Jackson Halsmer, and Betulius. The quartet posted a time of 3:01.40.<\/p>\n<p>In the diving well, Brandis Heffner and Addison Boschult led the Hawkeyes. Boschult dove to a fourth-place finish posting a career-best 367.13. Heffner finished fifth with a career-best score of 339.00. On the 1-meter, Heffner again bested his personal score diving to a third-place finish with a score of 325.88. Boschult finished sixth diving to a score of 302.93.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m very happy with the way our men competed tonight, they did a really good job,&#8221; said UI diving coach Todd Waikel. &#8220;It wasn&#8217;t just about achieving personal bests tonight; they stayed the course and improved on what we work on in practice. We fought all night, kept battling, and stepped up when we needed to.
