COLUMBIA – Lauren Reedy bettered her own school record in the women’s 1-meter diving event tonight to lead the Missouri Tigers past in-state rival Missouri State tonight in Columbia.<\/p>\n
The Mizzou men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Missouri State in a dual meet Friday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The women’s team won 12 of 13 events on its way to a 200-43 victory and the men’s squad prevailed 189-54.<\/p>\n
Junior Lauren Reedy highlighted the Tigers’ big day by shattering her own school record in the 1-meter diving competition with 352.43 points. Reedy also claimed first in the 3-meter dive, trailed closely by freshman Alexa Beckwith, who posted 331.57 points to move up to sixth all-time in Mizzou history.<\/p>\n
After the Mizzou women’s team started the afternoon winning the 400 medley relay, freshman Kira Zubar secured her first of two event victories on the day in the 1000 free with a 10:15.29. Zubar also added a win in the 500 free later in the meet, clocking a 5:00.79.<\/p>\n
Fellow freshman Hannah Stevens also recorded two event wins during the meet. Stevens swam a season-best 1:58.23 en route to claiming first in the 200 back. That time ranks 21st in the NCAA so far this year. Additionally, the Lexington, Ohio, native won the 200 free with a 1:51.14.<\/p>\n
Junior Abby Duncan finished first in the 200 breast, swimming a 2:12.92. That time is the seventh fastest in the NCAA in 2014-15.<\/p>\n
Dani Barbiea (100 free), Rachel Hayden (23.37), Sharli Brady (400 IM) and Erin Metzger-Seymour (200 fly) each grabbed event wins of their own to round out the women’s team’s dominant performance.<\/p>\n
The Mizzou men’s team bookended its win with victories in both the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay.<\/p>\n
Senior Eegan Groome and sophomore Michael Chadwick led the way for the men with two event wins each. Chadwick swam a 1:38.26 to claim the 200 free and secure the 15th best time in the NCAA this season. He followed it up by edging Missouri State’s Uvis Kalnins to win the 100 free in 44.76. Groome swept the distance events, clinching first in both the 500 free (4:33.66) and 1000 free (9:23.41).<\/p>\n
In the 50 free, redshirt junior Matthew Margritier clocked a 20.21 to claim first. Margritier owns the 16th fastest time in the nation this season. Seniors Sam Tierney and Mack Darragh also got wins in the 200 breast and 200 fly, respectively.<\/p>\n
Lastly, in the diving well, junior Clark Thomas swept both the 1-meter (381.90) and 3-meter (423.30) competitions.<\/p>\n
The Mizzou women’s team improves to 2-0 in dual meets this season while the men’s squad recorded its first dual victory of 2014-15. Both teams will head to Lexington, Ky., next weekend to face Kentucky, Southern Illinois and Northwestern. The two-day meet will start at 6 p.m. Nov. 7.<\/p>\n
The Missouri State swimming and diving team completed an eventful month on Friday, Oct. 31, in dual action against Missouri at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
While the men\u2019s side and women’s team fell to the Southeastern Conference member, the Bears had a variety of swimmers break season-best times this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a great opportunity to race against an SEC school and show them what we are capable of,\u201d junior men\u2019s swimmer Uvis Kalnins said. \u201cI think we put on a good fight and posted good times.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kalnins was a top performer for the Bears Friday. He swam the anchor leg of the 400 medley squad \u2013 which included Paul Le, Isaac Springer and Matthew Wilson \u2013 that posted a season-best time of 3:19.83. Kalnins also posted season-best times while finishing first in the 400 IM (3:53.51) and second in the 100 free (44.85).<\/p>\n
\u201cMy races tonight went well starting out in the 400 medley relay as the anchor (and) posting a season best in both my individual races.\u201d Kalnins said. \u201cI think I\u2019m on the right track in the water and in the weight room to have a good meet in a few weeks at Louisville.\u201d<\/p>\n
The men had several notable season-best performances. Miguel Davila finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 9:25.32, while Max Pratt had a personal mark of 10:17.17. Isaac McKnight placed third in the 200 free (1:42.60) and Will Brand finished in a time of 1:43.61. Christopher Heye completed the 400 IM in 4:08.50 and Ethan Bresette topped his best time in the 200 fly (1:56.91).<\/p>\n
Paul Le earned top honors in the 200 back (1:45.65) and a runner-up finish in the 50 free (20.49). Garrett Nevels led the MSU divers with runner-up finishes on the 1-meter diving board (3:28.88) and the 3-meter board (340.35).<\/p>\n
\u201cI think this meet went well considering the amount of duals we have had this month,\u201d men\u2019s senior diver Garrett Nevels said. \u201cI\u2019m excited to use this meet as a benchmark to see what can be improved on for the upcoming Louisville meet.\u201d<\/p>\n
The women\u2019s team also had several top times set in Friday\u2019s dual action.
\nThe Bears went 2-5 in the 1000 free with Suzanne Van Rensburg (10:31.01), Heather Snyder (10:31.07), Emma Metz (10:49.82) and Carly Wright (10:56.17) all posting personal bests in the event. Van Rensburg (5:14.69) also earned her top time of the year in the 500 free.<\/p>\n
Ibby Simcox (1:57.72) and Shawna Elsey (1:59.58) hit personal marks in the 200 free, as did Briana Horozewski (4:37.97) in the 400 IM and Lauren Williams (2:13.25) in the 200 fly. Emily Chesser, Megan Holthoff and Quincy Howell also set season-bests in the 200 back.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been a good experience racing as much as we have this month and finishing with Missouri,\u201d sophomore women\u2019s swimmer Anna Bump said. \u201cIt put everyone to the test not just physically, but mentally as well and we will be stronger for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bump and Kate Gately went 3-4 in the 100 free, while Dora Kiss also got fourth place in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n
Nina Privitera placed fourth in 1-meter diving with 237.60 points and Hannah Swyers also finished fourth in 3-meter diving with 210.97 points to lead the Bears\u2019 women\u2019s divers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we fell short as far as points today, we always take positives away from meets like these,\u201d sophomore women\u2019s diver Nina Privitera said. \u201cWe are building a very good foundation for the rest of our season and most importantly the conference championships.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have asked a lot out of our athletes with meets every weekend in October,\u201d head coach Dave Collins said. \u201cIt has been beneficial to watch the races and compete. I am really looking forward to a few good weeks of uninterrupted training as we prepare for the Louisville Invite in late November. That meet will be a championship format and we will look to be very sharp at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Bears have a three-week break from any competitive events before heading to the Louisville Invitational from Nov. 21-23.<\/p>\n
