GRANT Hackett made an impressive return from shoulder surgery over the weekend with a victory in the 400-meter freestyle during the first stop on the Telstra Grand Prix circuit. Clocking 3:46.99, Hackett produced the fastest time in the world this year and demonstrated that he\u2019s recovered from his visit with the knife.<\/p>\n
After undergoing his shoulder surgery, Hackett missed the Commonwealth Games and this weekend marked his return to competition. Obviously, the two-time defending Olympic champion in the 1,500 freestyle is in fine form. Hackett has set his long-term goals on earning a three-peat in the metric mile at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.<\/p>\n
Leisel Jones also enjoyed a strong weekend as the world-record holder in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events won four titles in Brisbane. Aside from prevailing in the 200 individual medley (2:17.34), Jones took first place in the 50 breast (31.34), 100 breast (1:06.29) and 200 breast (2:27.59). Her time in the 100 breast was the most impressive performance, as it has only been surpassed by herself and American Jessica Hardy.<\/p>\n
Libby Lenton collected victories in the 50 free (25.15) and 100 butterfly (58.95), with her fly win arriving over Jessicah Schipper (59.47). Schipper tied for first in the 200 fly as she and Felicity Galvez posted identical swims of 2:11.15.
