OXFORD – Purdue swimming started off the dual meet season with a huge 207-92 win against Miami (Ohio).<\/p>\n
Led by a pair of individual victories from Guillermo Blanco, James Nguyen and Stephen Seliskar, Purdue men’s swimming and diving rolled to a 207-92 victory at Miami (Ohio) Thursday evening in the Boilers’ first dual meet of the season.<\/p>\n
Purdue won 13 of the 16 events, all but the 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. The Boilermakers entered the night with 32-6 lead after the divers dominated the springboard events contested Oct. 17 in West Lafayette.<\/p>\n
Blanco won the 200 free and 400 IM, Nguyen swept the breaststroke events and Seliskar demonstrated his fitness by touching first in the 200 back and 200 fly.<\/p>\n
Adam Johnston took the 50 free and also swam among Purdue’s victorious quartets in the 200 free and 200 medley relays. Seliskar led off the 200 free relay winner to go along with his two individual event wins.<\/p>\n
Nate Hopkins won the 500 free and finished second to Blanco in the 200 free. It was one of nine events, including diving and both relays, in which the Boilers had at least the top two finishers.<\/p>\n
Two of the best finishes of the night were in events in which Purdue had the top three finishers. A race that featured 40 lengths and took over nine and half minutes was still decided by just over half a second as Filip Bujoczek out touched Manuel Gutierrez by .53 hundredths. Seliskar out touched Josh Brooks by only four hundredths in an exciting 200 fly.<\/p>\n
Ted Curtiss (100 back) and Lyam Dias (100 fly) swam the first two legs on the Boilers’ victorious 200 medley relay team and were also the team’s top finishers in an individual event.<\/p>\n

Miami University men\u2019s swimming and diving team suffered a loss on Thursday evening to Purdue University with a final score of 207-92 at the Nixon Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
RedHawk newcomer freshman Peter Simcox earned points when he swam to a first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.63. Junior Sean Neri earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.91 followed by junior Jacob Prodoehl in a close third. Senior Joe Baumgartner brought home another first-place finish for the RedHawks in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 45.59.<\/p>\n
Another top finisher for the RedHawks was junior Evan Bader who earned two second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (57.68) and 200-yard backstroke (2:04.7). Touching the wall at 1:55.47, junior Heshan Unamboowe placed second in the 200-yard backstroke. Sophomore Lucas Brock placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.37 and third in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 47.57.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Bryan McNamara turned in a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 1:44.28. The 200-yard medley relay placed third with a time of 1:37.13 thanks to the efforts Neri, sophomore Matthew Rigali, senior Michael Heavilon and junior Sean DeMuro. Junior Christopher Dieter, freshman Ross Westrick, sophomore Jack Strauss, and Prodoehl turned in a time of 1:26.54 in the 200-yard freestyle relay earning them a third-place finish.<\/p>\n
The RedHawks are back in the water, Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Nixon Aquatic Center when they host Cleveland State at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
