The Crimson and Gray have now won two straight season openers against the Falcons.<\/p>\n<p>Nikolaki posted a 267.37 to win the 1-meter dive and a 248.55 to take the 3-meter event while Martin clocked a 54.86 in the 100-yard freestyle and a 2:14.83 in the 200-yard IM. Day captured the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:17.59 and completed the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:52.30.<\/p>\n<p>The Engineers opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as Marissa Patterson (Hampton, NH), Zoe Eggleston (Newtown, CT), Nysa Casha (Andover, MA) and Martin struck gold with a 1:55.32. Martin, Day and Casha later teamed with Eva Childers (Henniker, NH) to record the best time in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:45.86).<\/p>\n<p>Patterson won the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.21) as Eggleston touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke and Casha took the 100-yard butterfly. Tori Claverie (Derry, NH), Julia Bushell (Windham, NH) and Emily Matsco (Windham, NH) captured the 50-yard freestyle (25.98), 200-yard backstroke (2:20.62) and 200-yard freestyle (2:00.85). Bentley\u2019s Anne Warren (Ellicott City, MD) (200-yard butterfly) and Emily Niemiec (Meriden, CT) (200-yard breaststroke) were the only Falcons to claim an event.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Powers (Glocester, RI), Andrew Bauer (Cumberland, RI), Tim Petri (Eksjo, Sweeden) and Nick Houghton (Berkley, MA) each won a pair of individual events as the WPI men\u2019s swimming and diving team defeated Division II Bentley, 173-122, on Wednesday night at the Dana Center Pool. It marked the second consecutive year the Engineers have defeated the Falcons to open their season.<\/p>\n<p>Powers (backstroke, 54.92, 2:02.96), Bauer (freestyle, 48.50, 1:45.95) and Petri (breaststroke, 1:00.17, 2:16.68) each swept their respective 100-yard and 200-yard events while Houghton touched the wall first in the 500-yard (5:02.39) and 1,000-yard (10:27.10) freestyle. The trio of Powers, Petri and Bauer teamed with Seth MacDonald (Sherill, NY) to win the 200-yard medley relay, the first men\u2019s event of the night, in a time of 1:39.31. Bauer later combined with Ben List (Bedford, MA), David Smallwood (Bangor, ME) and Andrew Kelleher (Poughquag, NY) to close out the night with the fastest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:18.72)<\/p>\n<p>MacDonald also had the best time in the 200-yard IM with a 2:02.40 as Smallwood struck gold in the 100-yard butterfly (53.04). Cameron Back (St. Louis, MO) took the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.03) and Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, WA) of Bentley registered the Falcons only non-exhibition win with a 22.40 in the 50-yard freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>On the diving board, Matt Suarez (Needham, MA) and Randy Melanson (Attleboro, MA) finished second and third in both events. Suarez led the way with a 241.50 on the 1-meter board and a 223.73 on the 3-meter board. Melanson, meanwhile, scored a 157.35 on the 1-meter and 161.32 on the 3-meter.<\/p>\n<h2>Bentley Press Release<\/h2>\n<p>Swimming in their first dual meet as collegians, freshmen Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn.\/Francis T. Maloney HS) and Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md.\/Mt. Hebron HS) each won an event while competing for the Bentley University women\u2019s swimming team against WPI at the Dana Center Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Those were the only two wins posted by the Falcons, who dropped a 183-108 decision to the Engineers.<\/p>\n<p>Niemiec was first to the wall in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:36.23, while Warren earned her victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.87. Niemiec was also second in the 200 individual medley (2:13.83) and part of the Falcons\u2019 200 medley relay that placed second (1:57.32).<\/p>\n<p>Including both relays, Bentley placed second in ten of 16 events. Senior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn.\/Danbury HS) was involved in three of those: 200 freestyle (2:03.87), 500 free (5:30.13) and the 400 free relay (3:48.09).<\/p>\n<p>Senior Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn.\/Holy Cross HS) took second in both diving events, posting scores of 226.19 (one meter) and 232.79 (three meter).<\/p>\n<p>The other individual seconds were recorded by junior Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn.\/Avon HS) in the 1000 free (11:18.12), senior Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn.\/Pomperaug HS) in the 50 free (26.32) and freshman Jessica Chen (Darien, Conn.\/Darien HS) in the 100 free (57.13).<\/p>\n<p>Despite junior Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn.\/Tolland HS) sweeping the two diving events, the Bentley University men\u2019s swimming and diving team dropped a 173-122 decision to WPI Wednesday evening at the Dana Center. It was the opening dual meet of the season for the Falcons.<\/p>\n<p>Bridge posted winning scores of 253.94 in the one-meter and 237.45 in the three-meter. Both were relatively close competitions with winning margins of 12.44 and 13.72, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Bentley\u2019s other win came in the 50 yard freestyle with junior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash.\/ Newport Senior HS) finishing in 22.40 seconds, besting the Engineers\u2019 Benjamin List by 0.42 seconds. Bury also picked up a second-place finish with a time of 50.16 seconds in the 100 free, and was part of the Falcons\u2019 400 free relay that was second in 3:20.65. That quartet also included freshman Chris Vukas (Randolph, N.J.\/Randolph HS), sophomore Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas\/Lubbock HS) and junior Tim Connolly (Dorchester\/Boston Latin Acad.).<\/p>\n<p>Vukas was also second in the 100 backstroke (55.67) and classmate Alden Karam (Norwich, Conn.\/Norwich Free Academy) took second in the 500 free (5:06.35).<\/p>\n<p>The Falcons will be back in the Dana Center pool on Sunday for a 1 pm meet against Le Moyne College.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/athletics.wpi.edu\/sports\/swimdive\/2014-15\/files\/bentley_v_WPI_2014.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Results: WPI vs. Bentley<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WALTHAM &#8211; WPI Swimming swept Bentley with wins in both the men&#8217;s (173-122) and women&#8217;s (183-108) contests.
