VICTORIA, British Columbia, May 9. COMING off a strong showing at last year\u2019s World Championships in Montreal, Canada is ready to continue its upward surge under the direction of National Team Head Coach Pierre Lafontaine. That was the sense that came out of a press conference last week concerning this summer\u2019s Pan Pacific Championships. The meet is slated for Victoria, British Columbia from August 17-21.<\/p>\n
Slated for the Saanich Commonwealth Place, the Pan Pacific Champs will feature more than 300 athletes, including the elite from Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan and China. The U.S. will select its squad for the Pan Pac Champs in Irvine, California in early August. Those National Champs will also serve as a selection meet for next year\u2019s World Championships in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
The Canadian contingent for the Pan Pacific Championships will be led by Brent Hayden and Brittany Reimer, two athletes who excelled at the Montreal World Champs. Hayden was a member of two medal-winning relays while Reimer has emerged as one of the world\u2019s top female distance freestylers. At the Commonwealth Games earlier this year in Melbourne, Canada took home 16 medals.<\/p>\n
