BUIES CREEK – Georgia Southern swimming had a strong outing against Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association foe Campbell, 141-121.<\/p>\n
The Georgia Southern Eagles enjoyed a fast day in the pool, as they topped fellow Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association member Campbell University 141-121.<\/p>\n
The meet started with a big Eagles victory as the 200 Medley Relay team of Christina Moran, Megan Heller, Amber Cortazzo and Elaina Lanson touched in 1:47.49; a full second ahead of the Camels. Putting up a quick 11 points on the scoreboard for that victory, the Eagles fed off the momentum and the times continued to be fast throughout the meet.<\/p>\n
“I was actually surprised at some of the times we put up today,” said Head Coach Nate Kellogg. “We were a little faster than expected, which is always a good thing. Campbell raced tough today but I’m proud that we were able rally and find a way.”<\/p>\n
In the 100 Breaststroke, Abbie Lavallin won with a time of 1:08.38 while teammate Lauren Campbell took first in the 200 Butterfly finishing in 2:07.65.<\/p>\n
The Eagles dominated the 50 Free as Lanson finished first in 23.78 just ahead of teammate Heller who touched in second at 25.19. The tandem of Cortazzo and Madison Lichtefeld finished first and second in the 200 Breaststroke with times of 2:26.16 and 2:28.48 respectively.<\/p>\n
In the 400 Individual Medley, Campbell touched first with a time of 4:35.70 while Amber Juncker finished second in 4:37.31.<\/p>\n
The Eagles closed out the meet with a dominating victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay, finishing almost 3 seconds ahead of the Camels. Teammates Moran, Kylee Parsons, Heller and Lanson combined to bookend the meet with relay event wins.<\/p>\n
The Eagles will return to the pool, in the first home meet of the year, on Saturday November, 18th as diving will compete against Clemson University at 10 a.m. while swimming will take on University of North Carolina \u2013 Asheville at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
Georgia Southern finished Saturday’s meet with a 27-9 edge over the day’s final two events to top Campbell 141-121 at the Johnson Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
Campbell held a slight edge heading into the final two events, but Georgia Southern’s Lauren Campbell topped the 400 IM and teammate Amber Juncker placed second, giving the Eagles 14 points to CU’s five.<\/p>\n
GSU then took the first and third spots in the 200 freestyle relay, sealing the win.<\/p>\n
Campbell dipped to 3-4 in dual meets with the loss.<\/p>\n
Geena Squartino picked up Campbell’s first win of the day, gathering a 10:27.34 in the 1000 yard freestyle, while Michelle Case followed with a time of 1:54.54 in the 200 free in another win.<\/p>\n
Georgia Southern took the next three events when the Camels surged in the 100 free, taking the lead as Case led a trio of Camels that took the first three slots in the race, notching a time of 53.33. Sindija Silina (54.03) and Larissa Joassaint (55.15) followed in second and third.<\/p>\n
Lily Tang won the 200 back with a season-best time of 2:05.09 to extend the Campbell lead before GSU topped the 200 breaststroke and regained the lead with a 14-5 edge.<\/p>\n
Squartino (5:07.72) and Caroline Clark (57.42) then took consecutive wins in 500 free and the 100 fly, respectively, before the Eagles closed out the meet.<\/p>\n
