PHILADELPHIA – La Salle swimming swept a pair of dual meets against Drexel at Kirk Pool.<\/p>\n
The La Salle men’s swimming and diving team continued their strong start with a 184-116 win over the Drexel Dragons at Kirk Pool on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
“The teams responded well to the back-to-back meet,” said head coach Matt Nunnally. “If these meets are indicative of where our season is headed, it’s going to be a fun year. But we need to remind the team this is a long season and it has only just begun.”<\/p>\n
The 400-yard medley relay team of Fabian Bergman, Johan Roth, Jakub Bartosiewicz, and Justin Hughes got the Explorers off to a strong start with a first place finish (3:23.22).<\/p>\n
Hughes also won two individual events, taking the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:42.84 and the 100-yard freestyle with a 47.39.<\/p>\n
Rohan was another strong performer for La Salle, winning the 200-yard backstroked (2:05.75) and finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.91) behind teammate Dimitrije Mladenovic (57.78).<\/p>\n
The Explorers are back in action on Saturday November 1 in a meet with Duquesne and St. Bonaventure at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.<\/p>\n
La Salle women’s Swimming and Diving topped cross-town rival Drexel, 180-119, Friday evening in a dual meet held at Kirk Pool on La Salle University’s campus.<\/p>\n
Senior Amina Wilson paced the Explorers, winning the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly while swimming legs in the first-place finishing 200-yard Freestyle and 400-yard Medley relays.<\/p>\n
Other top finishers include Paige Frishkorn, who continued her dominance on the diving board this season winning the 3-meter dive and finishing second in the 1-meter event, and Emma Smith, who won the 1000-yard Freestyle by more than four seconds (10:27.31).<\/p>\n
The win comes on the heels of a narrow loss to a talented Villanova squad yesterday evening and improves the team’s record to 1-1 on the season.<\/p>\n

The Drexel men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams fell to the La Salle explorers in the season opener. The men fell to the Explorers 184 to 116 and the women fell 180 to 119.<\/p>\n
Aubrey Murray notched a victory for the woman in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.18. The winning margin was 1.7 seconds ahead of Sarah Finn of La Salle. Murray then won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.52. Rachel Barnhardt recorded a second win for the Dragons with her victory in the 100-yard breaststroke. Emily Joyce made it three wins after her victory in the 200-yard butterfly. Joyce won by a comfortable 6.79 seconds.<\/p>\n
Gillian Gress got a win in her first colligate meet with a win in the 200-yard backstroke. Grees\u2019 time was a 2:07.44 and was a winner by 3.64 seconds. Barnhardt made it two wins after winning the 200-yard breaststroke. She won by less than a second with a 2:20.77. Rouse Miranda was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle. Madison Kramer got the women on top of the podium with her win in the one-meter diving competition.<\/p>\n
On the men\u2019s side Kyle Lukens won the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:51.23. David Sanchez recorded a win in the three-meter dive with w score of 293.93. Sanchez was 13.5 points clear of the field. Ted Taylor got his first collegiate victory with a win in the 500-yard freestyle.<\/p>\n
Lukens made it two wins on the afternoon with a win in 100-yard butterfly. Sanchez also won twice after his win in the one-meter diving competition (258.45 points). The relay of Joel Berryman, Lukens, Alex Chialastri and Mike Shaeffer won the 200-yard freestyle relay by just four tenths of a second with a time of 1:25 flat.<\/p>\n
The Dragons return to action tomorrow when go down to Baltimore to face Loyola (Md.), Seton Hall and Lafayette.<\/p>\n
