BUFFALO, New York, April 28. UNIVERSITY at Buffalo athletics director Warde Manuel has named Andy Bashor as the next head coach of the UB women's swimming program, effective immediately. Bashor, who brings 10 years of coaching experience to Buffalo, becomes the 11th head coach in the history of the UB women's swimming program. <\/p>\n
"We are very excited to have Andy join the UB family," Manuel said. "He has a history that is deep in collegiate swimming from his days as a student-athlete to his current coaching career. We feel that his experience in the Mid-American Conference and his successful recruiting and coaching of swimmers in the Northeast will help lead the University at Buffalo to its goal of winning MAC championships." <\/p>\n

Bashor comes to Buffalo from Rutgers University where he spent the last four seasons as the head assistant swim coach for both the men's and women's programs. Bashor, who coached the sprinters and was the recruiting coordinator, helped lead the Scarlet Knights' women's swim team to one of their most successful campaigns this past season as they finished second in the Big East Conference and qualified seven swimmers for the Women's NCAA Championships. Rutgers ranked 13th in the final CSCAA women's swimming rankings this past season. <\/p>\n
Prior to being hired at Rutgers, Bashor spent four seasons as the head assistant swim coach at UC Santa Barbara. He coached sprinters and breaststrokers and acted as recruiting coordinator and strength coach. During his four seasons, the men won three Big West Conference titles, while the women won one Big West title. <\/p>\n
Bashor is no stranger to the Mid-American Conference as he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant swim coach at Ohio University. He received his master\u2019s degree in physical education in 1998. Bashor had a successful career as a collegiate swimmer as a four-year letterwinner at North Carolina State University. Specializing in sprint free and butterfly, he was a team captain during his senior season.
