BATON ROUGE, Louisiana. April 30. THE LSU men's swimming team has received national letters of intent from three highly coveted swimmers, head coach Adam Schmitt announced Thursday.<\/p>\n
Headlining the list is distance freestyle swimmer Will Rivers of Elgin, Texas. Rivers exploded onto the scene his senior year capturing the Texas 4A state championship in the 500 free (4:27.37) and 200 free (1:41.03). His 500 free swim placed him sixth in the country among all high school athletes. <\/p>\n
At the Speedo Championship Series in College Station, Texas, he added victories with faster times in the 1000 free (9:11.98) and 500 free (4:27.14). <\/p>\n
"Will is a talented, young athlete that will help propel the program to a higher level," said Schmitt. "I truly believe he will become one of the top Tigers to ever compete for LSU." <\/p>\n
Nate Telep, a native of Chandler, Ariz., is also slated to enroll in the fall. Telep adds more depth to the distance freestyle and medley swims for the Tigers. He capped his senior year by winning the 500 free at the state championship with a career-best time of 4:33.76. <\/p>\n
Telep has shown versatility with experience in the 400 individual medley (4:02.41) and all 200-yard strokes. <\/p>\n
Schmitt also announced the signing of East Carolina transfer Christopher Lubeneau. Lubeneau, a native of Leipzig, Germany, finished out his freshman year with top-eight conference finishes in the 100 butterfly (47.52), 200 fly (1:51.92) and 50 free (20.70). <\/p>\n
Lubeneau will not only strengthen the Tigers' relay efforts with his butterfly leg but also in his freestyle swim as well. He owns a mark of 45.81 in the 100 free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
