LOUGHBOROUGH, Great Britain, October 22. Raymond Hedger, from the South East Region, has been elected as ASA President for the 2014-2015 season. He succeeds Simon Rothwell who has held the position for the last twelve months.<\/p>\n
In accepting the position Hedger said: \u201cI would like to thank the South East Region for nominating me and also to my wife Janet for all her support and encouragement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an exciting time for the ASA as we look forward to welcoming our new Chief Executive Officer, Adam Paker, in November and embark on our new swimming competition structure in the new year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am aware of the extremely high standards that have been set by my predecessors and I make a commitment that these will be maintained in my year of office. I look forward to working with everyone involved with the ASA.\u201d<\/p>\n
Outgoing President Simon Rothwell said: \u201cI would like to thank the Association for their support over the last year and extend my congratulations and best wishes to Ray and Janet for the year ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n
tHedger has always been involved in aquatics and other water based activities having played Water Polo and been a keen rower when he was younger. After his children were born he became an active member of Woking Swimming Club, qualifying as a swimming teacher and club coach before becoming an ASA Tutor and SCASA Swimming Official. He went on to hold a hold a number of positions at County, District and Regional level and in 2012 was elected President of the South East Region.<\/p>\n
Chris Bostock, Chair of the ASA Sport Governing Board, said: \u201cI would like to congratulate Ray on his election and look forward to his continuing involvement and support during the forthcoming year as ASA President.\u201d<\/p>\n
ASA Chair of the Group Board, Edward Lord, added: \u201cIt is fantastic that someone so experienced in this sport and others is to be our ceremonial leader for the next twelve months.\u201d<\/p>\n
The position of ASA President is elected by the Regions in rotation. Hedger was nominated by the South East Region and confirmed at the ASA\u2019s Annual Council meeting held on 18 October in Birmingham. John Bird from the South West Region was elected to the position of Vice President.<\/p>\n
