April 24. TWO of the greatest names in American swimming history \u2013 Dara Torres and Summer Sanders \u2013 received a new name last week: Mom<\/i>!<\/p>\n
Dara, 39, the first American woman to compete in four Olympic Games (1984, \u201988, \u201992 and 2000), owns nine Olympic medals, four of them gold.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, April 18, three days after her own birthday, Dara gave birth to Tessa Grace Torres-Hoffman. Tessa, who weighed in at 8.1 pounds and stretches a lanky 21-1\/2 inches in length, appears to have her mom\u2019s build. \u201cWe don\u2019t know who she looks like (Dara or husband, Dr. David Hoffman), but she definitely has my big feet and hands, and long toes and fingers,\u201d Dara said.<\/p>\n
Mom, dad and baby are happy and doing well. <\/p>\n
Three days later, at 12:42 A.M on Friday, April 21, Summer, 33, gave birth to Skye Bella Schlopy after 40 hours of labor. Skye, like Tessa, is a solid young lady, weighing 7 lbs. 7 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat a special day April 21st turned out to be,\u201d Summer said. \u201cNot only was it my dad\u2019s birthday, but our little girl entered the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Summer — the most decorated American woman at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona with two gold medals, a silver and a bronze — was the star of the Nickelodeon kids\u2019 game show, \u201cFigure It Out\u201d and is co-host of the NBA's \u201cInside Stuff\u201d on NBC. She is married to two-time US Olympic skier, Erik Schlopy. <\/p>\n
