STANFORD, California, October 19. Max Williamson, Andrew Liang led Stanford men’s swimming to a dominant 179-106 win against Hawaii. Williams posted the top 400-yard IM time in the country, with Liang posting the second-best 100-yard fly.<\/p>\n

Stanford opened up the meet with a 3:17.52 to win the men’s 400-yard medley relay with David Nolan (47.94), Daniel Le (56.08), Connor Black (49.09) and Thomas Stephens (44.41) putting on a show for the win.<\/p>\n

Hawaii’s Victor Goicoechea beat Stanford’s Danny Thomson in the 1650-yard free, 15:32.83 to 15:42.18, while Stanford’s Justin Buck placed third in 15:50.23.<\/p>\n

Stanford responded with a dominant 1-2-3 in the 200-yard free. Sean Duggan won in 1:38.62 with Drew Cosgarea (1:38.74) and Jeff Garnier (1:39.78) rounding out the podium. Andrew Liang then led a Stanford freshman 1-2 in the 100-yard back with a 48.95. Patrick Conaton took second in 49.71 with Ali Maclean of Hawaii placing third in 50.57.<\/p>\n

Liang put up one of the fastest times of the meet, with an exhibition 47.48 in the 100-yard fly. That’s the second fastest in the NCAA behind Sam Lewis (47.35) of North Carolina. Gray Umbach (48.13) and Connor Black (49.43) also exhibitioned times.<\/p>\n

In an exciting battle between Stanford teammates, Christian Brown touched out Le, 55.91 to 55.94, for the 100-yard breast title. Hawaii’s Paulo dePaula finished third in 56.17.<\/p>\n

Stanford had another dominant event in the 200-yard fly with a 1-2-3-4 effort. Gray Umbach threw down a 1:47.63 for the win, while Tom Kremer (1:48.85) and Jimmy Yoder (1:50.77) took second and third. Max Williamson posted a non-scoring fourth-place 1:52.59.<\/p>\n

Williamson closed out his meet later in the session with the first sub-3:50 400-yard IM in the NCAA this year as he exhibitioned a 3:49.07. That beat the top time of 3:50.38 set by Chase Kalisz of Georgia against North Carolina. Curtis Ogren (3:52.88) and Justin Buck (3:59.75) exhibitioned second and third for Stanford.<\/p>\n

Nolan began the front-end of a sprint free sweep with a 20.49 for the win. Thomas Stephens (20.82), Ethan Hallowell (21.27) and Jack Descombes (21.45) made it a top-four sweep for the Cardinal. Nolan followed after the diving break with a 44.68 for the 100-yard free victory. Sam Perry (45.39), Duggan (45.52) and Pickard (45.83) gave Stanford another 1-2-3-4.<\/p>\n

Cosgarea led another 1-2-3-4 for Stanford with a 1:47.87 in the 200-yard back. Conaton (1:48.91), Brock Turner (1:48.99) and Ryan Arata (1:50.67) closed out the top four. Le then won the 200-yard breast in 2:04.03 with Brown taking second in 2:07.84. Hawaii’s dePaula finished third in 2:09.18.<\/p>\n

Yoder hit the wall in 4:31.21 to win the 500-yard free, while Garnier (4:32.50) and Kremer (4:32.73) placed second and third.<\/p>\n

Kristian Ipsen dominated diving, winning the one-meter with 392.78 points and the three-meter with 422.63 points.<\/p>\n

Stanford closed out the meet with Liang (20.83), Hallowell (20.54), Duggan (20.42) and Garnier (20.54) exhibitioning a winning 1:22.33 in the 200-yard free relay.<\/p>\n
