STORRS, Connecticut, October 19. The University of Connecticut swim team hosted\u00a0Central Connecticut, Yale and Rhode Island in a non-scoring time trial on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The University of Connecticut women\u2019s swimming and diving team hosted a non-scoring scrimmage against Central Connecticut, Yale and Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The Huskies saw great swims from several swimmers, including seniors Katy Munzenmaier (Lake George, N.Y.) and Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.), sophomore Christine Pedersen (Vinterbro, Norway) and freshman Emily Parillo (Phillipston, Mass.), who all earned first place finishes on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Munzenmaier won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.31 and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (53.26), while Pigot took home first place honors in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.74) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.52).<\/p>\n
Pedersen, who had a productive season last year for the Huskies as a freshman, topped all swimmers in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.21, and she tallied her second victory of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming it in 2:03.84. Parillo had a great debut for UConn as well, winning the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.30) and finishing second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.92) along with Pigot, Pedersen and sophomore Tara O\u2019Prey (Ridley Park, Pa.).<\/p>\n
Other Huskies to see quality times on Saturday were sophomore Sophie Nothnagle (Victor, N.Y.) and junior Laura Ruttan (Stittsville, Ontario). Nothnagle swam to a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:03.91, and Ruttan posted an excellent time (2:23.67) in the 200-yard breaststroke to finish second in the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday was a very positive day for our women\u2019s team,\u201d UConn swimming coach Bob Goldberg said. There were some outstanding swims and we are excited for what is ahead for this team.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Huskies begin regular season action on Friday on the road against Villanova, as both the UConn men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams will compete against the Wildcats. The meet is set to start at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Blue Devils opened up the season on Saturday and saw great performances from several swimmers, including freshmen Maddy Garber and Lauren Czulewicz, and senior Helene Neuhaus.<\/p>\n
Garber was the first representative for the Blue Devils in three events. The rookie placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke in her Blue Devil debut with a time of 1:05.86, less than one second behind the leader. She also finished fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.68 and sixth in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:13.77.<\/p>\n
Senior Helene Neuhaus recorded a fourth place finish with a time of 59.20 in the 100 yard backstroke and a sixth place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.47.<\/p>\n
Freshman Lauren Czulewicz touched the wall in fifth place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.58 and she also placed eighth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.25.<\/p>\n
The Blue Devils also saw a promising time from their 200 yard medley relay team. The team consisted of Neuhaus and Garber, as well as sophomores Sabree Thomas and Christine Rasile. The team finished fifth in the event with a time of 1:50.20.<\/p>\n
CCSU swim and dive will begin regular season action next Saturday, at home, with the Blue Devil Diving Invite at 1 p.m. followed by a swim meet at 5 p.m. against LIU Post.<\/p>\n
