COLUMBUS, Ohio, October 18. The Ohio State women\u2019s swimming and diving team hosted its opening home contest Friday evening, with the annual Scarlet vs. Gray exhibition. Competition remained fierce throughout the evening, yet the victory was awarded to Team Scarlet.<\/p>\n
Team Scarlet started the meet with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay with the help of veterans Camey Rabold, Rachael Dzierzak, Annelise Sprau and newcomer Macie McNichols.<\/p>\n
Sophomore and distance specialist, Lindsey Clary broke Scarlet\u2019s streak when she touched the wall first, recording Gray\u2019s opening win of the night in the 1000 freestyle.<\/p>\n
Junior Annie Gillig pulled Team Gray ahead after a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle, only to be combatted by Scarlet\u2019s Rabold in the 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n
Ashley Vance, a senior this season, made her first appearance during the 100 breaststroke when she touched the wall first, continuing Team Scarlet\u2019s winning streak.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Amy Bopp took command when she dominated the 200 butterfly, giving Gray another solid win. Zhesi Li then made her debut as a Buckeye, recording a victory for Gray in the 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n
After a brief break in action, Sprau entered the water looking for another meet victory for Scarlet in the 100 freestyle. Gillig commanded attention again as she claimed another Gray win, keeping them within a single point of Scarlet.<\/p>\n
Vance looked to prove herself once more in the 200 breaststroke, sneaking ahead for the win. Clary took to the pool for the 500 freestyle and commanded a second personal win, while maintaining momentum for Team Gray.<\/p>\n
Senior Aliena Schmidtke brought home a win in her favored event, the 100 butterfly. Bopp finished her evening with the 200 individual medley, finishing first to bring Gray within seven points before the final event.<\/p>\n
Although the Gray relay team of Zhesi, Annie Jongekrijg, Gillig and Clary claimed the 400 freestyle relay, it was the Scarlet who held on to claim the top team score.<\/p>\n
Ohio State returns to action at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion next Friday, Oct. 24 to take on Purdue and Cincinnati. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. On Thursday, the squad will send team members to Oxford, Ohio for a dual with Miami.<\/p>\n

The Ohio State men\u2019s swimming and diving team hosted its annual Scarlet vs. Gray exhibition meet Friday evening at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Team Scarlet proved too much for the Gray contingent, winning by a margin of 157-105.<\/p>\n
Representing the Scarlet, the 200 medley relay of Steven Zimmerman, DJ MacDonald, Tamas Gercsak and Josh Fleagle captured the first win of the night.<\/p>\n
Freshman Brayden Seal of Team Gray earned a victory in the 1000 freestyle, while Fleagle battled back for Scarlet to claim the 200 freestyle. Zimmerman followed in suit, gaining his first individual victory in the 100 backstroke event.<\/p>\n
Macdonald added to the Scarlet total by claiming the 100 breaststroke. Moving on to the 200 butterfly, Gercsak also represented Team Scarlet with a first-place touch.<\/p>\n
To close out the first half of the meet, sophomore Matt McHugh added points for Team Gray after his win in the 50 freestyle.<\/p>\n
When competition resumed, Fleagle, Zimmerman and Macdonald each sequestered a third victory in the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, respectively.<\/p>\n
Seal returned with confidence in the 500 freestyle, as he touched the wall first for Team Gray. In the 100 butterfly, Team Gray continued a strong stretch with McHugh finishing first.<\/p>\n
Zimmerman wasted no time rounding out his evening with a fourth victory in the 200 individual medley. A strong, 400 freestyle relay performance from Steffen Hillmer, Ching Lim, Andrew Appleby and Fleagle solidified a Scarlet victory in the final event to close out the duel.<\/p>\n
The Buckeyes return to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion next Friday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. to combat in-state foe Cincinnati.<\/p>\n
