BUDAPEST, Hungary, October 13. \u00a0Missouri State picked up another strong international swimmer along the lines of Latvian Uvis Kalnins as European junior championship breaststroker Artur Osvath has committed to compete with the Bears as part of the Class of 2015.<\/p>\n

Osvath, who is from Budapest, Hungary, is part of a new breed of Hungarian swimmers taking on loaded event schedules like the Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu. \u00a0Although Osvath is more focused on 200 and lower, he decided to take on a 14-event slate at a short course meter competition in March. \u00a0During three days, he broke his personal best in 12 events, including a 57.70 in the 100-meter IM, a 2:14 in the 200-meter breast, a 4:02 in the 400-meter free and a 2:04 in the 200-meter IM.<\/p>\n

“It has been a dream of mine to be able to go to college in the United States, and MSU head coach Dave Collins is giving me the chance to start a great journey with the commitment to his team from the Fall 2015,” Osvath told Swimming World<\/em>. “I started off my career as a little kid who loved water, and my family has supported me from the beginning.\u00a0I think I will be a great fit for the Missouri State swimming and diving team.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Osvath began competing swimming at the age of 8, and competitively at the age of 11. \u00a0His primary focus is breaststroke, following a long line of champion Hungarian breaststrokers like Joe Szabo, Agnes Kovacs and, most recently, Daniel Gyurta. Osvath also has some ability in the medley, butterfly and freestyle events up to the 200s.<\/p>\n

Osvath’s primary meet this year was the European Junior Championships, where he clocked a personal best 2:15.74, before drawing a disqualification in finals due to an illegal turn. \u00a0However, Osvath did manage to clock a 2:14.70 before having the time wiped out in finals. The time would have placed him third overall.<\/p>\n

Osvath will join fellow Hungarian Dora Koss, who is a junior at Missouri State and is also from Budapest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
