LINCOLN, Nebraska, October 11. The University of Nebraska topped in-state rival Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday, winning 13 of 16 events.<\/p>\n
The Nebraska swimming and diving team won 13 of 16 events on the way to a 187-107 victory over Nebraska-Omaha at the Devaney Natatorium Saturday.<\/p>\n
Taryn Collura, Anna Filipcic and Cassandra Brassard each earned two victories for the Huskers in their regular-season home opener.<\/p>\n
The Big Red began the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. NU’s squad of Jacqueline Juffer, Sam Hardewig, Collura and Rebekah Land finished in a time of 1:48.47. The Huskers swept the relay events, with the team of Collura, Amanda Moran, Brassard and Natalie Morris finishing first in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:38.49.<\/p>\n
In the meet’s second event Collura captured her first victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle, racing to a time of 1:56.95. Collura also captured a victory in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming to a winning time of 57.46<\/p>\n
Nebraska’s second of three multiple event winners, Brassard earned her first victory in the 100-yard backstroke. The freshman raced to a time of 58.62. Her second victory came in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming to a time of 5:15.55.<\/p>\n
Nebraska swept the breaststroke events on Saturday. In the 100-yard breaststroke Jordan Ehly raced to a first-place finish with a time of 1:05.80, while Hardewig earned a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:28.23.<\/p>\n
In the diving well, Filipcic captured both the one- and three-meter titles. Filipcic scored 309.45 and 337.65 in the one- and three-meter dives, respectively.<\/p>\n
Nebraska also saw individual victories from Bria Deveaux, Erin Oeltjen and Katt Sickle. Deveaux earned a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.74. Oeltjen captured the title in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:07.66, while Sickle posted a winning time of 2:12.38 in the 200-yard individual medley.<\/p>\n
Nebraska returns to action next weekend, traveling to Ames to face Iowa State. The action starts Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m..<\/p>\n
The Huskers will be back home Saturday, Nov. 8, to take on Arkansas at the Devaney Natatorium. The Big Red’s battle with the Razorbacks will begin at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
