CLOSTER, New Jersey, October 8. One of the fastest backstrokers in the Class of 2015 is headed to Tennessee as Phoenix Aquatics’ Christina Paspalas committed to head coach Matt Kredich tonight.<\/p>\n

Paspalas, the sixth-ranked swimmer in the State of New Jersey by CollegeSwimming.com<\/a>, had a breakthrough year in backstroke this year with a 25.31 in the 50-yard back and a 54.02 in the 100-yard back. \u00a0Those two times put her right in the mix at Tennessee, as she should make a big impact on the medley relays.<\/p>\n

“I chose Tennessee because of the team,” Paspalas told Swimming World<\/em>. “When I was on the trip, I saw what a great group of people they are. \u00a0I can’t wait to be surrounded by them and the incredible atmosphere at Tennessee.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Paspalas, who pres at Northern Valley Regional High in Demarest, also has some strong times in long course competition stemming from the Arena Grand Prix stop in Charlotte. \u00a0Against some of the nation’s best backstrokers, Paspalas put up a 29.63 in the 50-meter back and a 1:03.35 in the 100-meter back.<\/p>\n

She’s even competed in the unorthodox short course meters events with a 29.82 in the 50-meter back and a 1:05.38 in the 100-meter back at the NYSA April Record Breaker meet in 2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
