FORT Lauderdale, Florida. April 6. THE Sun continues to shine in Fort Lauderdale and so do the swimmers at the YMCA National Championships. The meet is rolling alond nicely with more fast swimming and close races. YMCA of the Triangle Area continues to lead the team competition with 608.5 points. Currently in second with 408 points is Sarasota YMCA. M.E. Lyons Family Branch YMCA had some great swims on the third day to hold the third spot with 319 points. <\/p>\n
2006 National Junior Team Member, Leah Gingrich from West Shore YMCA tore up the field in the women's 400 IM taking the first spot in a stellar 4:15.45. Teresa Long from the Triangle Area YMCA continued to show her sprint strength in the 100 free touching the wall first tonight in 50.29. 2004 National Junior Team Member, Tricia Weaner from West Shore YMCA controlled the field and won the 200 Backstroke in 1:58.66.<\/p>\n
On the men's side, Michigan bound Freshman, Charlie Houchin from Triangle Area YMCA came off his National Record last night to win the men's 400IM in 3:54.63. Jesse Cohn from Lakeland Hills YMCA paced Houchin nearly every step of the way but came up just short at the wall with a 3:54.63 performance. John Lytle from the Clearfield YMCA who will be attending Notre Dame in the fall showed his sprint skills in the s100 freestyle touching in 45.16. Future Alabama Freshman, Clint McClendon from Montgomery Alabama took down the 200 backstoke in 1:50.41.<\/p>\n
