BRIDGEPORT, Pennsylvania, October 2.\u00a0The top teams in the three weekly polls remain unchanged as the\u00a0University of California-Los Angeles<\/strong>,\u00a0Whittier College<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Princeton University<\/strong>\u00a0top the 2014 Men’s Varsity Week 4\/October 1 National Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Polls.<\/p>\n

In the National Top 20 rankings, the Bruins of UCLA remain the unanimous top choice in this week’s balloting with 100 points.\u00a0\u00a0Stanford University<\/strong>\u00a0(95 points), the\u00a0University of California<\/strong>\u00a0(90 points), the\u00a0University of Southern California<\/strong>(85 points) and the\u00a0University of California-Santa Barbara<\/strong>\u00a0(80 points) follow as the Top Nine positions in the rankings remain unchanged from the September 24 voting.<\/p>\n

Whittier join the Bruins as a unanimous No. 1 selection as the Poets picked up 100 points to outdistance\u00a0Johns Hopkins University<\/strong>\u00a0(90 points) by 10 points for the No. 1 position among small college institutions in the Division III Top 10.<\/p>\n

Similar to the Division III Top 10 poll, the CWPA Top 10 experiences a widening of the gap between No. 1 and 2 as the Tigers of Princeton (100 points) become the unanimous No. 1 pick and hold a five point lead over Northern Division frontrunner\u00a0Brown University<\/strong>\u00a0(95 points) for top billing in the league.<\/p>\n

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.<\/p>\n

2014 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 4)
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The\u00a0University of California-Los Angeles<\/strong>\u00a0(100 points) remains the unanimous No. 1 selection in the Week 4\/October 1 National Top 20 Poll.<\/p>\n

UCLA, which moved up to No. 1 last week in the wake of downing former No. 1-ranked\u00a0Stanford University<\/strong>\u00a0by a 9-7 final score, leads a Top 20 in which 11 of the 20 teams, including the first nine spots, retain their rankings from seven days ago.<\/p>\n

Stanford (95 points), the\u00a0University of California<\/strong>\u00a0(90 points), the\u00a0University of Southern California<\/strong>\u00a0(90 points), the\u00a0University of California-Santa Barbara<\/strong>\u00a0(80 points),\u00a0Long Beach State University<\/strong>\u00a0(75 points),University of the Pacific<\/strong>\u00a0(71 points), the\u00a0University of California-San Diego<\/strong>\u00a0(65 points) and the\u00a0University of California-Irvine<\/strong>\u00a0(57 points) hold firm at No. 2-to-9, while\u00a0Princeton University<\/strong>\u00a0(54 points) edges out the\u00a0University of California-Davis<\/strong>\u00a0(51 points) to acquire the No. 10 spot.<\/p>\n

UC-Davis slips back to No. 11, while\u00a0Pepperdine University<\/strong>\u00a0(45 points) joins the Aggies in inching back one spot to No. 12.<\/p>\n

Brown University<\/strong>\u00a0(38 points) and\u00a0Santa Clara University<\/strong>\u00a0(29 points) exchange the No. 13 and 14 berths in front of No. 15 the\u00a0United States Air Force Academy<\/strong>\u00a0(24 points).<\/p>\n

The biggest mover of the week is\u00a0Whittier College<\/strong>\u00a0(21 points) as the Poets jump from No. 19-to-No. 16.<\/p>\n

Loyola Marymount University<\/strong>\u00a0(20 points),\u00a0Harvard University<\/strong>\u00a0(16 points), the\u00a0United States Naval Academy<\/strong>\u00a0(14 points) and\u00a0St. Francis College Brooklyn<\/strong>\u00a0(10 points) complete the Top 20.<\/p>\n

California Baptist University<\/strong>\u00a0(6 points),\u00a0Bucknell University<\/strong>\u00a0(3 points),\u00a0Concordia University<\/strong>\u00a0(3 points),\u00a0Johns Hopkins University<\/strong>\u00a0(2 points),\u00a0George Washington University<\/strong>\u00a0(2 points) and\u00a0Pomona-Pitzer Colleges<\/strong>\u00a0(1 point) also received votes.<\/p>\n

2014 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 4)
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"\"The Poets of\u00a0Whittier College<\/strong>\u00a0(100 points), which are now ranked at No. 16 in the National Top 20 Poll, remain at No. 1 in the Week 4\/October 1 National Division III Top 10 Poll.<\/p>\n

Whittier, which returns to be a unanimous top pick, expands its lead for the top spot to 10 points over its closest rival as the Blue Jays of\u00a0Johns Hopkins University<\/strong>\u00a0(90 points) remain at No. 2.\u00a0 The lead is double the distance between the Poets and Blue Jays from last week as Whittier held a mere five-point margin against Johns Hopkins in the September 24 balloting.<\/p>\n

Similar to the National Top 20, changes at the top of the rankings are few and far between as the\u00a0University of La Verne<\/strong>\u00a0(84 points),\u00a0Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges<\/strong>\u00a0(82 points) and\u00a0Pomona-Pitzer Colleges<\/strong>\u00a0(76 points) cling to the No. 3-to-5 positions, respectivley, for another week.<\/p>\n

However, Pomona-Pitzer has company at the No. 5 spot as\u00a0Chapman University<\/strong>\u00a0(76 points) inches into a tie for the position.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Massachusetts Institute of Technology<\/strong>\u00a0(75 points),\u00a0California Lutheran University<\/strong>\u00a0(65 points), the\u00a0University of Redlands<\/strong>\u00a0(57 points) and\u00a0Connecticut College<\/strong>\u00a0(34 points) round out the Top 10.<\/p>\n

Washington & Jefferson<\/strong>\u00a0College<\/strong>\u00a0(22 points) also received votes.<\/p>\n

2014 Men’s Varsity CWPA Top 10 (Week 4)

The Tigers of\u00a0Princeton University<\/strong>\u00a0continue as the top rated team in the league as the squad picked up 100 points to become a unanimous top selection in the Week 4\/October 1 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Poll.<\/p>\n

Princeton, which finished second to\u00a0St. Francis College Brooklyn<\/strong>\u00a0last season in the CWPA Championship title game and was ranked No. 1 in the wake of the Preseason, Week 1, Week 2 and Week 3 ballots, is the only team in the Top 10 to retain is position from the September 24 voting.<\/p>\n

Northern Division frontrunner\u00a0Brown University<\/strong>\u00a0(95 points) and the\u00a0United States Naval Academy<\/strong>\u00a0(88 points) both move up one spot to take over at No. 2 and 3, respectively, while defending league champion St. Francis (82 points) returns to the championship picture scene by climbing four slots this week to take over at No. 4.<\/p>\n

Harvard University<\/strong>\u00a0(80 points) slips to No. 5, while\u00a0Bucknell University<\/strong>\u00a0(73 points),\u00a0George Washington University<\/strong>\u00a0(72 points) and Johns Hopkins (69 points) rate at No. 6-to-8.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Massachusetts Institute of Technology<\/strong>\u00a0(59 points) and previously unranked\u00a0Iona College<\/strong>\u00a0(33 points) complete the Top 10 with\u00a0Fordham University<\/strong>\u00a0(24 points) also receiving votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
