AUSTIN, TX – University of Texas junior Colleen Lann\u00e9 (Tucson, Ariz. \/ Salpointe Catholic), sophomore Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif. \/ Buena) and freshman Kristen Marquis (San Juan Capistrano, Calif. \/ Santa Margarita Catholic) were all honored as Big 12 Conference swimmers and divers of the month for November as announced Monday by the conference office. In a vote of the league’s head swimming and diving coaches, Lann\u00e9, Dumais and Marquis were selected to receive the conference’s first monthly honors of the 1999-2000 season. <\/p>\n
Eight-time All-American Lann\u00e9 has been the leading scorer for the Longhorns and women’s swimming head coach Jill Sterkel, posting six NCAA-consideration standard times while claiming four individual-event victories this season. In addition to winning both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events at the SMU Classic on November 5-6, Lann\u00e9 also captured first-place honors in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle against Texas A&M on November 19. Additionally, against No. 1-ranked Georgia, she posted second-place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events while also competing on the Longhorns’ victorious 200-yard freestyle relay squad. <\/p>\n
The 1999 NCAA three-meter springboard champion, Dumais has been the undisputed leader for the Longhorns’ men’s diving corps and head diving coach Matt Scoggin. The three-time All-American swept both diving events as the Longhorns defeated then-No. 1 Stanford on November 5 in Palo Alto, Calif., to become the first team to defeat the Cardinal at home since USC accomplished the feat on February 7, 1997. Dumais followed those victories with yet another sweep of the diving events at then-No. 6 California to help Texas achieve its first No. 1 ranking of the season. <\/p>\n
In her first season of collegiate competition, Marquis has been Texas’ top female diver. In addition to capturing six event titles, including a sweep of both the one- and three-meter springboards at the SMU Classic as well as against No. 1-ranked Georgia, Marquis has also recorded NCAA Zone “D” qualifying scores on both boards. <\/p>\n
