March 16. OLYMPIC gold medalist Anthony Ervin and NCAA champion Sabir Muhammad are teaming up to conduct free swim clinics for age group and Masters swimmers in conjunction with the men's NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.<\/p>\n
The clinics will be held on Saturday, March 25, at the Emory University Swim center in Atlanta. The age group clinic will start at 9:00 am, while the Masters clinic will begin at 11 am.<\/p>\n
Ervin and Muhammad are two of the most charismatic American swimmers in recent years. Ervin, who set American records for the 50- and 100-yard freestyle as well as the 100-meter freestyle, won Olympic gold in 2000 when he and teammate Gary Hall, Jr., tied for first in the 50-meter freestyle. He also took a silver in the 400-meter free relay. In 2001, he earned gold with his American record 48.33 at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.<\/p>\n
Last year, Ervin auctioned off his Olympic gold medal on e-Bay, donating the funds from the winning bid to help Asian tsunami victims.<\/p>\n
Muhammad, a former American record-holder and one of the most explosive swimmers of all-time, was captain of the 1998 NCAA champion Stanford team.<\/p>\n
The clinic, to which NCAA alumni and fans are invited — along with age-groupers and Masters — will focus on "the importance of swimming free of stress and expectations and just having fun," according to Muhammad. The clinic will also give athletes an opportunity to further develop their racing starts, turns and sprint techniques. <\/p>\n
