BOSTON, Mass. March 13. Several records fell at Harvard this past weekend at the SPEEDO Champions Northern Sectional meet. Many of the Nation's future swimming stars took the next step en route to the top. Julia Smit dominated the women's events to take home the Women's high-point award. Over the four day competition, Smit tallied 116 points. Thirteen year-old, Elizabeth Beise was not far behind with 95 points to her name. On the Men's side, Brian Wilson put together some very fast swims to earn 92 points and high point honors.<\/p>\n
On the team aspect, Peddie Aquatic Association won the combined team score, while a predominantly female cast from Germantown Academy tallied 555 points. The Germantown Academny woman put together 503 points on their own merrit, more than two-hundred points over Berkeley Aquatic Club's women. Peddie Aquatic Association showcased some very strong talent on the men's side to score 367 points over Fairport Area Swim Team 290. <\/p>\n
Notable meet records on the women's side, were broken by Smit, Alicia Aemisegger and Lauren English. Julia raced to a swift 1:46.14 in the 200 freestyle, then went on to swim 1:55.53 in the 200 backstroke to break the existing meet record by nearly 2 seconds. Distance ace, Alicia Aemisegger blazed a 4:07.85 in the 400 Individual Medley demolishing the field by nearly ten seconds. She later swam the 500 freestyle in 4:45.39 to take the meet record in that event as well. Lauren English touched the wall at 54.43 in the 100 backstroke to break Jenny Thompson's meet record from 2003. Smit and Aemisegger faced off in the 200 breastroke, Smit touched in 2:12.90 and Aemisegger touched half a second behind her with a 2:13.40. Both girls were under the previous meet record.<\/p>\n
For the men, Mike Ross broke the 100 backstroke record with a time of 49.63. Not too bad for a 37-year-old.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
