EARLIER today, the qualifying times for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials were released in a special webcast, the first time USA Swimming has done so. All of the cuts are faster than they were in 2012, with 12 of the 26 events improving by more than a second.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ydNSn9xzuic?rel=0&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Before we talk more about the Olympic Trials and present our new Trials-related poll question, let\u2019s look back real quick on the results of our last poll. We wanted to know what type of training philosophy the visitors to our website use on their swim teams, and it appears that the majority still stick with the high yardage philosophy, as 61 percent of voters picked that option. Just nine percent said they have a low-yardage state of mind at their workouts, while 30 percent said they implement both ways of thinking into their programs.<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, I thought the number of teams doing low-yardage training would be higher, as the Ultra Short Race Pace Training model has been growing in popularity. Of course this isn\u2019t an accurate portrait of training styles across the United States and around the world, but it\u2019s still a pretty surprising response.<\/p>\n<p>So, let\u2019s return to talking about those Olympic Trials cuts.
