INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 9. RECORDS were the norm on the second day of the NCAA Division II Championships, held at the Indiana University Natatorium, site of several Olympic Trials. A pair of West Chester University standouts established marks on the women\u2019s side while one individual standard was set in the male competition. In the team standings, Truman State expanded its women\u2019s lead over Drury, 322-241. As for the men\u2019s side, Drury upped its total to 300 points, ahead of second-place Cal State-Bakersfield (273).<\/p>\n
The women\u2019s records came courtesy of the West Chester duo of Tammy Leane and Kathrin Dumitru. One night after winning the 1,000 freestyle, Leane took top honors in the 400 individual medley with a clocking of 4:18.03. Leane had the old record of 4:18.42. As for Dumitru, she covered the 100 butterfly in 53.82, quicker than the former record of 54.03, set by Loni Burton in 2004. In the men\u2019s competition, the 400 I.M. featured a record from Drury\u2019s Jakub Jiracek, who clocked a time of 3:50.31, better than his 2004 mark of 3:50.67. <\/p>\n
In the 200 freestyle relays, first-place finishes were secured by Drury for the women (1:33.74) and the University of Tampa for the men (1:21.69). Seattle University\u2019s Chris Coley topped the competition in the men\u2019s 100 fly as his time of 48.39 narrowly held off North Dakota\u2019s Rodrigo Ferreira (48.62). As for the 200 freestyles, wins were collected by Tampa\u2019s Chelsea Hastings (1:51.32) and Cal State-Bakersfield\u2019s Piotr Gegotek (1:38.38).
